Heyyyy I was wondering if you could write a fanfic where a child!reader first made it to TADC and they are just very young and scared and either Jax or Kinger takes them under his wing.
☆ A Pawn in A Cirus — Kinger & Child!Reader Fic ☆
Genre: Familial, Hurt/Comfort || They/them pronouns for reader || Warning for angst involving depersonalization, loss of identity, isolation, typical Cirus member fears
A/N: May I offer some Dad!Kinger comfort in these trying times,, (feat. Older brother figure Jax)

You anxiously stepped down the hallway of doors, nervously looking around. A lot of the members of The Circus had been very carefully kind to you, almost as if they were handling glass. Despite reassuring words and offered help, you couldn't shake your nerves being here. Who were these people? Why can't you go home? Everything was so bright, but instead of comfort, it only brought you fear. Nothing was familiar, not even your own name. Who were you before? Sometimes even you can't remember. And with all the noises, and that teeth-headed guy following you everywhere, it was just so much. Too much. Too quiet, too loud, too-
"There you are" A calm, rather disinterested voice said. You practially jumped a foot in the air (or, knowing the loose logistics of this world, maybe you really did) at the interruption to your thoughts. You looked up, seeing a purple bunny avatar leaning against the wall that opened to the hallway. "Geez, I thought rabbits were supposed to be the jumpy ones. Way to take my job, kid" Jax teased. His chuckling awkwardly tapered off when he noticed your eyes were growing damp and your lip trembled. "You really don't know how to take a joke either, huh?" Jax sighed. He suddenly grunted when you ran forwards to latch onto his leg. You gave a pitifully said noise as you looked up at him. "I can't find dad!" You announced sadly
"Dad-?" Jax repeated "You mean Kinger? That old nutcase is barely there for himself, how could-". You held Jax's leg tighter, the sadness growing in your eyes. There was a tremble to your arms from the desperation you felt. A tangible reminder that, well... you were scared. Jax rolled his square pupils with a big huff "Fine, come on, I saw his fort not far from here". He nudged you off of him, strolling forwards with a slightly slower gait. You jogged a little to keep up, practically hiding behind him
"You got lost or something?" Jax asked. You looked up at him and nodded "I was talking with Gangle, but...". "I can only imagine how fun that was" Jax grinned to himself "She show you her anime figures?". "Nuh-uh, we were drawing" You responded simply. Jax laughed a little "Oh, of course! What else is there to do around here, huh? Well... except look out for the monsters". "M-Monsters?" You asked, feeling your shoulders tense at the mention. But Jax was grinning widely. "Yeah, didn't you hear? If you don't eat what Bubble gives you at dinner, those big monsters might get ya" He said, raising his hands up and slowly getting closer as he talked
"Nooo!" You whined sadly, clinging to him once again. Jax put a hand on your head, once more nudging you off. "Hey, come on, don't cry-" He said, looking a little uncomfortable "I was joking! What's gotten into you, huh? You're never so serious". Despite that, you kept looking over your shoulder for the rest of the walk. When finally making it to the fort of pillows, Jax kicked at one of them "Kinger, hey. Got your kid here". The front pillow acting as a door slid open, Kinger poking his head out "Kid? Congratulations! When did you have one of those?"
"Dad!" You almost yelped. You zipped past the both of them, crawling into the safety of the fort that you'd come to call your home. Kinger glanced at you, before looking back up at Jax. "I think they're the pillow's kid" He said. Jax scoffed out a chuckle. "Yeah, have fun with that" He said before walking back from where he came. Kinger sat back, sliding the pillow-door closed. The light from The Circus was blocked out, leaving a tranquil dimness. Kinger's gaze became a little less unfocused as he looked at you, his conscious slowly coming back to him
You'd curled into the far wall, leaning into the comfort of the plush for stability. Kinger sat back, his robe curling up so his knees (did he even have those anymore?) could press against his chest. "I don't like it out there..." You admitted softly, scooting across the floor to get closer to him "It's so… scary. I wanna go home". Kinger lifted one of his hands, and you took the opportunity to curl up to his side. Your face buried into the collar of his robes as you sniffled into the fabric
You sniffled once again, wiping at your eyes. "It's hard" You admitted softly "I try to play with you guys, but it doesn't feel like any fun. I don't like it here". "Well, maybe this fort can be your own little space, then" Kinger offered "Anything that keeps you safe is worth hanging on to". "Then... can I keep staying with you?" You asked hesitantly, fearing the possibility of denial "I can be quiet if you want! I just really like it here"
You felt a gentle hand rest on your back, the thumb petting across your spine. "You saw Gangle today, right?" Kinger asked. You nodded against him and replied with a muffled "Mhm. We drew". "That was fun, wasn't it?" The older chess piece asked. You leaned back enough to look up at him, nodding once again. "It's always scary to be somewhere new," Kinger began, his hand petting the top of your head "But being with the right people can make it easier. I'm sure it's not a great home, but I hope you can find something that makes you happy here. Like drawing"
"No need, I like hearing you talk" Kinger reassured "It's nice to hear someone else's voice for once. It's been a while since I had the company. You can keep staying". You let out a big breath of relief before letting out a small 'oh!' and digging in your back pocket. You produced a folded-up paper, holding it out to Kinger "Here, before I forget". He accepted it, gently opening it and smoothing out the creases in his lap as you rested your head against him. Inside was a scribbled doodle of yourself, a shaky purple Kinger right next to you. A butterfly was between you both, right over your held hands
"You made this?" Kinger asked, oddly surprised. "Yeah! With Gangle, remember?" You explained with a smile. Kinger's eyes were soft, and he gave you a tight side-hug. "I love it. I'll keep it right here with me" He promised softly, tucking it under his robe in what was presumably a pocket, but could have also been hammerspace. Either way, it was tucked away for safety. Just like you in the fort. Warm, surrounded by comfort, and with your sorta-dad beside you. Your chest finally didn't feel tightly coiled with worry, and you could actually breathe
"Hey, dad?" You spoke up gently "Can you tell me about bugs again? Pleaseee?". Kinger chuckled, his hand wrapping around you once again. "Let's see... there's this type of caterpillar I think you'll really love" He began. As he listed off the facts he could remember, you closed your eyes, using his voice as soothing white noise. Not only did it calm your mind, but it helped Kinger recall a part of himself that was taken long ago. You didn't know it, of course, but Kinger was absolutely sure if she were still here, she'd love you just as he does

A/N: Would y’all be interested in reading one of these about Caine as your father figure???
• You arrived in the circus not long before Pomni did. The biggest difference between you two was just how young you were, especially in comparison to the other circus members.
• You’d never had a good relationship with your actual parents, and it wasn’t uncommon for you to run away from home.
• You’d heard about an abandoned building not too far from where you were, so you packed your bag and made your way to set up camp until the cops found you again.
• You were surprised to find a VR headset in your new campsite. Typically power on meant the building hadn’t been completely abandoned yet, but you figured if you were just biding your time anyways, you might as well try it out.
• When you arrived in the surreal cartoon world, you’d been overwhelmed with emotions. It was an absolute roller coaster of an experience, especially for someone in your situation.
• Kinger would make you laugh. He wouldn’t mean to, it was just an odd show of his decaying mind, but it made you happy. Even if he wasn’t thinking right, he knew he liked the sound of your laughter.
• You’d get caught up in the childlike antic of building a pillow fort and hide out with him. It was a sanctuary from the chaos of the digital world
• He’d act different in the fort. You didn’t understand why, but it was nice. He’d comfort you when you were upset and tell you fun facts about bugs.
• Even outside of the fort, when he wasn’t all there, he knew he was attached to you. He knew he wanted to protect you wand make you happy.
• Its not that the other members of the circus treated you with malice, even Jax seemed to go easy on you because of your age, but there was no denying the bond between you and Kinger.
• He’d have loads of nicknames for you. Kid, kiddo, buddy, sweetie, bug… anything you can think of any more. Some are more endearing while others just seem random, but you know they’re all form a place of love
• If anything in the circus scared you he’d physically put himself between you and whatever it was bothering you.
• When Kaufmo abstracted he’d hold you close in the pillow fort, letting you know it was all gonna be okay, that he wasn’t going to go anywhere.
• In or outside the fort he’d be very physically affectionate. A hand on your shoulder or random hug would be pretty common occurrences.
• He’d probably help you get to know the other members of the circus so you’d feel more comfortable getting to know them.
• He’d nudge you in the direction of Gangle if you liked drawing or anime, or Ragatha if you were particularly fond of horses.
• He’d probably conjure something for you that’d become a comfort object. He wouldn’t explain how conjuring really worked, but you’d cherish it nonetheless less.
• You would be absolutely inconsolable when you were forcefully separated from Kinger in the horror adventure. It’s not that you couldn’t handle being away from him, but that you didn’t know if he was okay or not.
• Once it was over you’d run up to him and hug him for a long time. Pomni would go up to you later to ask if you’d known about how he gets in the dark. She’d probably become like an older sister to you after that.
• Pomni would still give you two your space, though. What you two had was special. He was your digital dad, your rock when no one else could be.
• He wouldn’t be a perfect dad, there’s no such thing. But he’d be your dad when you needed him to be, and that would be enough.
Would you believe me if I said this was supposed to be a sketch for a doodle page It ended up taking 2 hours instead
I have such a soft spot for dad-esque characters in media it genuinely brings me so much comfort so of course I had to project that onto Tilly here. One of the things they miss the most from the real world is their loving father. Somewhere in the dark she found comfort in this chess piece who she told reminded her of him and sheepishly asked if she could give him a hug.
So, I saw ur Kinger father figure thingy and WOWIEE I LOVED ITT!!!
Then, I had an idea.. What if we have teen Reader and parent Kinger (obv) but the episode with the guns. So, this would awaken the rank side of Reader and they would jst go crazy. I'll also leave Kinger's reaction up to U ^^
Also, if u wouldn't mind doing an episode 8 one? Like, will Reader also get 'PuT iN tHeIr PlAcE'? Or will they be with Kinger having to watch all of it? I'll leave that to u..
Ty 4 ur time!!1!1!1!!1!

A/N: I'm so happy y'all liked my Kinger HCs! I was kinda nervous posting it cuz it wasn't a request lol.
When Caine announces it would be a paired adventure, you were all a bit confused as to how it would work with odd numbers. Naturally, Zooble offered to sit this one out, but Caine was oddly insistent on everyone joining.
You, Kinger, and Ragatha became a team of three. You got along well enough with her, especially after she opened up to the group about her issues with her mom, as your own home life wasn't too great before you'd come to the circus.
As soon as the adventure turned into a battle royale you instantly knew this was your type of game. You used to play FPS type games all of the time before you arrived.
Although you logically knew shooting a gun in real life was different from a game, technically everything in the circus was just that- part of a game.
You managed to take a life off Pomni almost immediately before her and Jax ran off, though you didn't have much time to get anyone else before Ragatha pulled you and Kinger away from the action.
Kinger would probably compliment your abilities and offer you a high five, though when you gave him one he'd ask why you just hit his hand.
You were beyond trigger-happy, shooting at any slight movement you saw. Even if it was just a shadow on the wall, you'd have pinpoint accuracy.
Ragatha would ask you to show her how to do this, and you'd probably make some snarky comment about not being the tutorial (even if this would normally be out of character for you, something about this adventure just unlocked a different side of you).
The only thing that would snap you out of the trance, even if only temporarily, would be the butterfly. You're not sure why, but something about both the gesture and the creature itself encapsulated you, if only for a few moments.
You'd probably make it to at least the final four before inevitably joining your teammates. Even if you were good, you weren't invulnerable, and you certainly didn't have unlimited ammo.
When you joined everyone else who was eliminated Kinger would rush over to make sure you were alright. He'd wrap you in a hug and ask where you learned to shoot like that.
He'd probably be more proud of your talents than concerned for your sanity. He knew you'd never do something like that if there were actual stakes at hand.
Even if you insisted you were fine, he'd probably conjure a butterfly for you, just to be on the safe side (and maybe because even in the light he took note of how much you seemed to love it).
It's not that you two weren't openly close around the other members of the circus, but it was still a bit odd for the others to see Kinger acting so... normal, even with you.
Ragatha would probably ask if you already knew about his "sane side", and you'd explain that you did and give her a bit more insight as to how it worked when he was in the dark or the light.
You'd tell her all about the conversations and memories you've had with him and how important the pillow fort really was to the both of you.
You and Kinger would both extend an offer for her to join you in the fort, and probably explain that Pomni also knew about how the darkness impacted him.
After all of the excitement you'd probably curl up next to Kinger, exhausted from the day's adventure. Even if you didn't need to rest in the circus, it still felt nice after everything.
He'd lean into the affection and put his hand on your back as a way to let you know you were safe; to let you know that he was there.
Everyone else in the room seemed to quiet a bit at the sight, giving you two some space. They all knew you were close, and it was obvious you saw him as your dad, but for the first time they got to see just how deep it ran.
