you'll get the urge as an artist or a writer to say out loud the things you're worried about "the proportions are off" "kind of out of character" "i'm not good at summaries" "didn't get as much detail as i wanted" "i made a mistake and here's how" and that's the self-conscious part of your brain telling you "it's bad and if you don't tell them you know it's bad then they'll think you're stupid" but you've got to ignore that little voice and pretend you think it's good or else that little voice is going to ruin your life
Some of the best advice I have ever gotten was from a creative writing professor. She said never apologize for your work. Never critic it before someone else does.
Her reasoning was you are the creator. You made your work from nothing and can see all the flaws and seems and holes. But your audience may not see any of it. Maybe they will; maybe they won't. But if you TELL them about the holes and the mistakes and the problems....they will 100% see them. So don't tell them. Don't sabotage yourself just because you think you're not good enough.

yeah i just love it when a character is in an inescapable torment nexus for a huge portion of their life and it defines every aspect of their existence forever. also whats cptsd
Having your interests mocked as a kid and general low self esteem will have you insulting the things you like even when they're generally considered very good. Because you like it, and historically when you like something it's stupid and not worth anyone's time. So you will say nonsense like "I recommend this book/game/film, but it's okay if you hate it, it sucks, I really enjoyed it but that's because I'm an idiot" and you are recommending them the Citizen fucking Kane of that particular media type. And importantly: you need to stop doing this it is killing you

king jaime would be based actually he would make it law that all disputes have to be settled exclusively like #realmen through 1v1 combat so 90% of conflicts over dumb shit like succession or whatever would end in rich ppl being made to fight to the death in a ring instead of cataclysmic wars. a visionary really
no kidding

Y'all for real please do these. Even if you're certain your posture doesn't suck. One day you will wake up with impinged shoulder pain like I did and let me tell you it fucking HURTS. Do these exercises even just once a week and it will make such a difference. Especially my fellow creatives out there, stop shrimping over your work and go do these right now. RIGHT NOW.
Also, if you’re even a little concerned about getting a hump or having trouble standing fully upright in your old age, this is how you prevent that. If you want to be up and about when you’re old you have to start when you’re younger. And keep in mind there is no bad time to start and it’s never too late. Starting today is way better than never starting at all.
I actually do think it’s better for abusers and abusive characters to realize the harm their past actions caused and seek to do better than be literally or metaphorically executed for their crimes

Reading comprehension test:
1. Does OP mention an obligation on victims to forgive abusers who have learned from their past actions?
2. Does OP mention any work on the part of victims to educate their abusers?
3. Is there any mention of “redemption” or “forgiveness” at all in this post?
Something about how society cares more about punishing the wicked than about making the world a better place, and how many people really struggle to shake that.
this is how it feels when someone draws something for you

I genuinely wonder if people realize how many projects get abandoned because the readership "wasn't there", when in reality, the readership just stayed silent. It's a big thing in trad pub that book series get discontinued because readers pirate the books or wait until the series is finished to buy a copy, leading the publisher to think that nobody actually wants the book enough to continue the series, but it happens with indie creators too.
I've discontinued a lot of free, online series because it's not worth putting 3-5 hours a week into posting a project for no readers. Sometimes I finish the series for me but just never post it again, other times I don't finish it at all because it feels more worthwhile to put my time into other things. Sometimes I hear from readers who are sad or upset that I didn't finish something they were liking, but the *reason* it never got finished is because I didn't know anyone liked it. If you like something, tell the creator, tell your friends, make some noise about it. If you would be sad if a story never finished, make that interest known because one of my biggest considerations before discontinuing a series is "will people miss this? Will I be letting people down" and 9/10 times, I come to the conclusion of "no, it doesn't even seem like anyone's reading this" only to learn after I've moved on that apparently someone was.
I've said this before in a different way, and this post said it so well. With real examples. If you like something, tell people.
If you want more content from an artist or author, if you like their stuff, tell them. It will give them creative fuel to keep going. And often it gives them other resources as well. Recommend a work to other people. Leave a comment or a review. It doesn't have to be long, just genuine, a sentence or two. Not many people know that a book's success is judged by book reviews as well as sales. Review the book on Amazon or another site to help it pass the metric of success and be recognized by publishers and retailers.

2025 was the year I realized just how much doom scrolling has cost me. My reading capacity, memory, consistency, creativity, ability to keep working hard, etc etc. I used to be the kid with shelves of books and now I haven't read the ones I bought years ago. I can barely keep track of time and the days just fly by, I don't even know what I did during most of them. I obviously can work hard but not persistently, I've lost the ability to put in effort day by day to reap the reward in the end, I'm either hard on myself or I give up and stop caring when I don't achieve something immediately. I barely have any hobbies anymore, its been replaced by scrolling. This has generally been normalized so much tbh, so many people I know don't have hobbies anymore. Even my english is getting worse, while I know my native language instinctively, I hadn't realized that I had to keep reading to not forget vocabulary and basic grammar lol. But this is not who I want to be anymore. I don't like this version of myself, I don't want to be this stupid, useless, and incompetent. I want to change, I want to be better and do better for myself. I've been privileged enough to receive the sort of education and opportunities so many around the world have been denied. Hell, I do genuinely believe I have the brains, I've just not been using it right. I have tried to get my life before so many times before, but I hadn't properly realized where I was going wrong and I've never had the drive I have now. It won't be easy, but I hope 2026 is going to be my year
Gotta reblog this now 'cause it's very important.
Social media is not good for you, peeps.
Read books. Write stories, journal. Sit outside. Learn ocarina. Build models. Make mixtapes/playlists. Listen to classes/lectures on youtube or wherever you can find them. Make little snakes and lizards out of beads & plastic string. Draw maps of places that don't exist. They exist now! Proof: You have a map!
OP I am very very proud of you for beginning to break away from the unhealthy doomscrolling. I also hope 2026 is going to be great for you. And for all of us!
yall ever miss your own energy?? like damn wtf happened to me??
