itβs just so frustrating when someone can only talk about a female character in terms of what she βdeservesβ in a greater moral sense and never about what she wants and willingly puts herself through by means of having agency and what serves her narratively
#like i can attempt an essay about straught white old men writing women in marvel but in context of the characters themselves like. yall.#gonna be real. jean loves that man scott for all his fuck ups and shortcomings. and logan but this aint bout him.#like together or not you gotta let it be that jean IS going to step up to bat for either of them but most especially always scott.#setting aside naming particular characters tho i think its often a bit of projection on whoever is going βshe deserves betterβ#projecting personal opinions and preference onto a character thats already written to have their own and trying to rewrite it that way#and then theres instances of βshe deserved betterβ as in the writing did her bad and she needs to be written The Right Way but then#turn around and make a rewritten version be a very strange caricature that barely if at all resembles the original#or βdeserved betterβ as in erase the bad a character chooses to do by making her Right or choose good as if people dont fuck up everyday#as if people dont every day sometimes choose wrong or different or cruelly or selfishly or impatiently#im getting sidetracked.
