People will complain about Jon’s personality changing and him being more reserved or “boring” like that is not an active choice on his part. He feels the need to be extremely careful and uphold the ideas of heroism (and what is considered right which often means maintaining the status quo too). There are multiple times where this is shown to be directly connected to his experience with ultraman and with his own powers, which means he tries to inhibit them, but most importantly he inhibits himself and his behavior!!

And yeah, it can be tiring to see him repeating a lot of these patterns where he avoids risks and doesn’t actually fix his issues beyond what he tells others but it does make sense. It’s not something anyone has to like but it is a consequence of his trauma and I don’t think it’s fair for people to either claim that being stuck on a volcano for half of his childhood didn’t affect him, or to say that he’s bland because the writers don’t know what to do with him when there is so much evidence against either of those claims
