French heatwave might slime me out but at least i drew wonderwoman before dissapearing
This how you know they're besties
Iâd die on the hill that âstranger dangerâ is a deeply unhelpful mentality to have. âOoooh everyone is out to get me theyâre all gonna perpetrate harm thatâs actually more likely to come from someone I already know. I better never talk to anyone in my community who I donât already know, just to be safe. Iâm sure there are no other biases interwoven with this mentalityâ like oh my god human traffickers do not just randomly spawn in every parking lot. You donât have to go solo hitchhiking across the country but you also donât have to live in fear that every guy on the street is the knife man whoâs gonna get you. Like have situational awareness, yeah. But most of the time the guy on the street is not knife man heâs actually just a guy on the street and heâs probably pretty chill, and youâre driving yourself crazy by living in a constant state of unnecessary fear.
Instead of "live laugh love" or "home is where the heart is" my (wonderful, progressive, very accepting) dad put up the racism sign in the foyer
whats the racism sign?
The racism sign, as I like to call it, is from an art piece I made halfway through my first semester of art school:
It reads "any attempted theft will be reported to the police" in the 15 most commonly spoken languages by immigrants here other than English or other western european languages (in descending order).
This sign was only half of the art piece, the other half was the most stereotypically Icelandic painting I could think of:
When the piece was shown the painting and the sign were hung on opposite sides of the room, making the sign more of an afterthought for those who don't speak any of the languages written on the sign. Standing out just enough for them to notice it and maybe wonder what it said, but ultimately not giving it a second thought for the most part.
I wanted to highlight one of the most common ways racism and xenophobia present themselves here as well as the comfort of ignorance. The sign doesn't cater to you, you ignore it it, and you don't care what it might say. You don't have to think about it because it doesn't affect you.
For those who can read the sign though, or bother to translate it, this is just yet another reminder of people's ignorance and double standards. My inspiration for this piece came from my old workplace, where they had this sign hanging on one of the doors:
The main things that stood out about this to me were that
It was the only sign on the premises written in anything other than Icelandic and/or English
All of the additional languages (Vietnamese, Polish, Lithuanian, Latvian) specifically targeted minority groups that already face discrimination here
The location of the sign. We only had 1 of these, and they chose to put it up somewhere where only staff would see it rather than the customers. In fact, it was right next to the break room so you had to walk past it every time you went on break. And it was a sign reminding people not to steal. Big win for inclusivity here
People love saying that we're not racist/xenophobic here even though we very much are. The problem is just that so many people don't take the time to look when it doesn't directly affect them. I was very happy with my piece because people actually came up to me and asked what the sign said because they wanted to know, it started a conversation and made those previously unaware of this issue more aware. I wonder if these sorts of signs would be anywhere near as commonplace as they are if more people looked at them critically and asked "why is this the thing we bother translating?"
Anyway, all that aside I love my dad and I like the way this art piece turned out but also I am slightly worried about giving people the wrong idea when this is the first thing they see when they enter our home đ
Well if you want my permission to show it then you have it :))
with great regret i must inform you that there is a typo in the Latvian translation, so it actually says âany attempted theft will be reported to polandâ
I found out while working on this that it is extremely difficult to get 15 fully accurate translations into languages you don't speak in the span of a week but this is killing me đ

For the girl that I knew
For some strange unknown reason I've been thinking about Talia today and kinda the meta of how much damage Damian did to Talia's character which as a person that really loves both Damian and Talia its sad to think about
i've got the kind of eyebags that make people in movies say 'you look like hell, detective. go home.'
i have a lot of problems with this chemistry class but changing the variable of a common physics equation for no good reason is pissing me off way more than it should. what are you saying. what are you talking about. what is Happening.
letâs be real the pressure to use AI as an adult is exactly what they said the pressure the do drugs as a teenager would be like but the people that told us that caved immediately for the AI and definitely did not just say no

I've seen some posts trying to make fun of former gifted kids by comparing them to former student athletes who insist that they could have gone pro if not for a specific injury, and those posts always backfire, because my reaction to them is "You're right, we should treat former student athletes with more compassion than we currently do"
"lock in" is probably one of the most important phrases to enter the public lexicon in the 2020s
When Barry and Iris first adopt Wally Barry is so stressed heâs going to do something wrong.
Besides missions he has basically no experience with kids whatsoever.
Heâs an only child, none of his close friends have kids, and he really really wants to get things right with Wally.
Sure he has the fun uncle thing down but he doesnât know how to be a parent so he goes to the one person he knows who has children.
And Bruce gives great advice, especially because he can relate to suddenly ending up with a child without having time to prepare. The whole thing is very cute until Barry starts doing weird stuff and Iris cannot for the life of her figure out why he thinks any of it is a good idea.
âBarry why are you monitoring Wallyâs heartrate?â
âIs that keychain you gave him a tracker?â
âIâm pretty sure Wally knows to look both ways before crossing the street.â
âHeâs fifteen what do you mean you didnât know if he could have a sleepover?â
And Barry is wholeheartedly convinced that these are all normal things to do/worry about because Batman told him and Batman is a great dad.
Iris is just baffled as to where Barry is getting any of this information and obviously Bruce is utterly convinced that these are all necessary and reasonable parenting moves.
See, I do quite enjoy Bruce getting Wally and Barry mixed up in his head, that at least makes sense because Wally does self-admittedly try to emulate Barry. I just have an issue with it when a comic retroactively makes Barry more like Wally, eg. Barry absolutely should not be intimidated by Bruce or look to him for approval because that is a Wally thing that makes zero sense for Barry, who is closer to Bruce's age and had close to equivalent experience as a solo hero when they met. The parallels in Barry's and Wally's respective relationships with Bruce ARE super interesting but that should NOT be one of them.
"drug seeking" as a patient label one of the most dogshit stupid concepts of all time. fuuuck everybody look out this guy came in here expecting medical treatment. better watch out in case he goes to a restaurant and starts food seeking

Racism against Indians is actually a little insane when you consider how widespread it is even among liberals and leftists . Even people who consider themselves to be progressive will laugh at call center or tech support jokes. All scammers are inherently indian. Itâs okay to laugh at jokes making fun of Indians for their feelings towards animals or how they drive. India is inherently backwards and dirty so itâs okay to make jokes about getting food poisoning from even looking at indian food
