one genre of fanfiction that seems to have mostly disappeared since i became an adult is shenanigans-type fics. like not exactly crack but just "the gang goes to 7-11" type, extremely low-stakes plot stories. the beach episodes of fanfiction. i just feel like i don't see those around so much anymore. whered they go. i miss them :(

fuck fifa and fuck the usa however I am really enjoying a lot of world-cup-adjacent content of people realizing the usa is actually really nice when you're not looking at the government.

I love seeing random usa citizens adopting people here for the world cup and taking them to a bbq and waffle house and making sure they try our best food and showing them the boston cop slide and chicago cupcake milkshakes. teams are in random midsize college towns in the most random ass places across the country getting hyped up by a bunch of people who are actively learning about a foreign country in a way they probably wouldn't otherwise. there are so many bad things going on in the usa and in the world because of the usa, but I really really needed this reminder that most people are just people. and most people are good, and just want to make friends.

i am not a psychiatrist but i do find it really weird how autism checklists are so often focused on "outward" signs of autism rather than what is going on internally. i don't know how to explain it but "do you make eye contact with other people" feels like a much less relevant question than "how does it feel when you have to make eye contact with other people?"

But this is genuinely a shitty act against humanity.

I was debating pre- and post- smartphone existentialism with an older gentleman today and he stopped part way through and said “Why are you a security guard?
