my quintessential example of this:

i was holding him in my arms petting him while we were picking out what games to play that night. when we’d decided on a few, i needed to put the cat down in order to, you know, carry boxes. so i started letting him down, expecting that he’d eventually do the cat hop thing… but he never did.

me: we could watch this show?

brain: no.

me: we could….play this game we’ve been looking forward to for a while?

brain: no.

me: we could draw?

brain: no.

me: okay, fine, what do YOU want to do?

brain:

Yeah, the season just came out and I’m already there. 

Honestly, I’ve invested so much into this show and characters. And while part of me knew Season 7 couldn’t possibly live up to the hype, I’m still disappointed in the actions of the creators and what they did marketing-wise and how they’ve treated some of the characters. 

They may be responsible for these characters, but just as I can pretend that Final Fantasy X-2 didn’t happen, I can do the same here. 

My point in this post is to explain that while I’m disappointed in Voltron Season 7 for reasons I’ve explained here, I wasn’t surprised and so am basically over it and moving on to greener pastures. I have no intention of supporting the creators of this show any longer, but I will remain in the fandom and support the creators there. I, too, am a fandom creator and so I understand being in the position of having source material that doesn’t meet our expectations and so deciding to do something about it. 

For those of you unfamiliar with my writing, I do fall back on ships like most fanfic writers do, but that is not where my passion lies. It’s fun, but the type of writing I enjoy most is character-heavy epics. Anyone who has read my pieces Serendipitous Fate or Beyond Reality know this. Granted, these pieces aren’t finished, but they will be someday, and I’m honestly so spiteful about Voltron at this point that I’d complete this project no problem. 

I have a similar piece outlined for Voltron, as my mind always comes up with these epics as soon as canon ends, and so I had an outline as soon as season 6 came to a close. And while I won’t monetarily support Voltron any longer, I would be willing to take on this project (it’d be a big project) if enough people were interested in reading it. I’m not a huge name in the Voltron writing sphere, but that doesn’t mean I’m not a damn good writer when I put my mind to the right project. I just haven’t found that project for Voltron because I was–up until now–content with the canon content. 

But now I’m just insulted and annoyed, and I want something out their to bring closure to these characters and this story that isn’t the horrible trash pile the creators gave us. 

And for the record, my version would NOT include the following:

- Bury your gays trope

- Needless queerbaiting

- Name-calling and degrading of characters without proper recourse or conclusion

- Characters going out of character to be mean to other characters

- Lack of proper and necessary character development

- Tons of extra characters that take up screentime that no one cares about

- Mcguffins that make absolutely no sense

- A plotline that isn’t jarring 

- And a tone that doesn’t feel like whiplash every two seconds

Some of you may laugh and say “This author is awfully full of herself to think she can take this story and make it better,” but, honestly, it wouldn’t be hard to be better than what we got and, well, I honest to god believe that I’m a damn good writer. I haven’t worked at the craft every day for 15 years to be insecure in my abilities. 

The only issue is that a project like this takes a lot of time and effort and while I’d enjoy doing it, I’m also happy to leave Voltron behind if it’s something that would get no support. Writing is hard and it’s even harder when there aren’t people there to support you through it. 

But I’m nearly done with my novel and I’ll need something to give me a break while I edit that and send it out for publishing, and this might be the project I’ll take on if other people are interested in reading it. 

It’s just something I’m considering. It’d be a story that reflects the show–I’d write it in episodic installments, with each chapter mimicking the arc of an episode. So the first “book” would be 13 chapters and the second around the same. I’d mimic the pace and the tone of what’s good in Voltron, while also taking on a more mature theme as we continue, as most shows like this tend to do. 

There would be ships. I won’t lie on that. But they would not be the center of attention, yet still receive the appropriate amount of attention to be developed and justified. 

Writing such things really isn’t that hard and it’s honestly insulting to the written word as a craft that the Voltron team failed so miserably. 

But again, it’s just an idea. I don’t have any intention of monetarily supporting the show anymore, but I will put in my time and effort for people like myself.
