Lie to your doctor when you're asking for HRT. Tell then you've had dysphoria for years even if you haven't, tell then you're a trans woman/trans man even if your gender is more complex than that.
Tell them everything they need to know to prescribe HRT and nothing else.
Your case and claims will be picked apart and examined under a microscope, looking for any reason to say no. So tell them exactly what they need to hear to say yes.

I lied!!! I lied big time!!! And they diagnosed me with long term sustained transvestitism or some bs and i said thank you very much!!! And i took that little paper right to the surgeon's office!!! :)
Also- there wasn't a surgeon in my yee-yee ass state back then who could do topsurgery. But there was one in the state next door. Some insurances can reimburse you for procedures done by out of state doctors if they're deemed medically necessary (if u got that paper 💖) and not available in your state. Mine had me take out a specific medical loan (i think it was called care credit or smth) that the insurance was going to pay off once i got the procedure done. (I ended up not going that route for some reasons but it does exist!!!!) Don't settle for a dr that is only probably not transphobic and only knows a little bit about how to do the operation you need. Look into doctors out of state and see what your insurance can do!!!
Also you should feel comfortable and enthusiastic about your surgeon/doctors! If you don't trust them look for someone else! You are the customer here, and especially with surgeries, it's important to go with someome you reasonably trust. It is worth the wait!
