Black Friday theory:
Wilbur Cross and Ted are identical twins.
I know, I know, it's probably a coincidence that they both look suspiciously like Joey Richter.
But imagine that you and your brother, who have done everything together, finally go your separate ways. He gets this secretive job. You don't hear much about him, except for his encounters with the paranormal and the extra-dimensional. Then, one day, you get a phone call from a John McNamara. He tells you that your brother has come back from the 'Black and White', is a prophet of an evil god named 'Wiggly' and has renounced all his earthly ties. Your brother has effectively gone mad and disappeared.
And so the spotlight falls onto your life. Who are you? You're Ted Cross, stuck in a dead-end office job with colleagues who range from an asshole who makes his whole personality revolve around not liking musicals (like that's ever going to be relevant) and a divorced dad who seems intent on antagonising you, to the best damn woman you've ever seen who doesn't deserve her husband and who you just want to make happy. Oh, and your boss is a real feral shade of chaotic.
The icing on the cake is that your brother became a father without telling you. His eldest daughter works in Toyzone to support the family that your brother abandoned and his youngest daughter seems to have a psychic connection with both an imaginary spider friend and the evil god who drove your brother insane (I believe the theory that Wilbur Cross is Hannah's father, and potentially Lex's, and that's how they gain their connection to the Black and White).
It's enough to make anyone a Presbyterian.
