apocalypse ☾ ,

it was big – all she could do was sit there eyes wide and bright, filled with childlike wonder as she stared at the elephant. it was the first time she did it RIGHT.

a corporeal patronus – she had tried so much before break, tried and tried again before she vowed to not have another go till her mind was clear and she wasn’t so consumed by worry, “i did it –” she breathed out, not even aware that someone had stepped into the empty transfiguration classroom –

“an elephant!” tia exclaimed, completely forgetting that she might be intruding on someones private moment. “you definitely did. do you think you could do it again?” she made her way over and gave emma a hopeful glance. “for art reference purposes?”

Scarlett’s eyes widened, absolutely faked shock flashing over her face. “I am not difficult, you, my father, and every other man in my life are simply just plain wrong. My mere existence is an absolute joke to you, isn’t it? You swim in my misery and enjoy it,” she huffed, the twinkle in her eye admitting she wasn’t completely serious. “Please? A lady never begs.”

“Here I was thinking we had being difficult in common, you more than me, but.” Laughter bubbled out of Hestia, “I wouldn’t enjoy it! I much prefer a nice beach to an ocean of misery.” A mischievous little grin appeared. “Good thing you aren’t a lady.” Then she practically hopped across the room, grabbing a cleaning broom to start picking up glass pieces. Not exactly wanting those floating through the air. “Do you have a date tonight or something? Or just wanting your skin to be clear fast? Cause if it’s a date you need to tell me everything.”

“listen, the paint spilled before i even saw it move. normally i’d be able to stop it, but i got so lost in my work..” she did feel bad, that she had spilled paint onto one of her things. a dark red color too. “but, it’s okay cause i’ll fix it! honestly speaking i wasn’t going to say anything, but then you walked in and i panicked-- so.” she was just going to fix it and pretend like nothing happened. maybe leave a chocolate or so on her pillow as a silent apology.

arthur had gotten used to being up early while he had been at home and it was something that hadn’t stopped now he was back at school. he liked being up early enough to have some quiet, to spend a little time with his thoughts. the first thing he did that morning, though, was get himself a cup of tea. he smiled as he spotted another person close by, “i didn’t expect anyone else to be up this early.” he chuckled slightly. “can’t sleep or up for the day?” 

tia had her signature jar of caffeine, ready to chug all of it if need be. just to get through the day. she was sure she was still partially asleep, hardly hearing him at first until her head turned and she gave a sleepy grin. “can’t sleep. couldn’t sleep at all actually, now i’m just preparing.” then her eyebrow raised, eyes filling with question. “do you normally wake up this early? on purpose? if my night frights get bad enough it’s almost impossible for me to wake. please do give me your obviously ancient waking up early tricks. ” 

“well that’s not my fault.” she insisted. hands up to block the egg. “this isn’t really fair hestia.” she smirked, bringing the umbrella back to protect herself. “still useful! lily pulled out of the hug rather quickly, she wasn’t terribly comfortable with affection or the position hestia put her in but she kept smiling all the same. she linked her arm with hestia instead, preferring that to the side hug. “oh i look forward to your revenge then. plans? no, why what are you planning?”

“so you claim,” tia jested. “what’s really fair in this world?” she didn’t mind that it had changed to a linked arm, she was more focused on her offer. “ a study session of epic proportions!  Snacks. Books. Out of bed past the curfew, I really want to try and do better with potions. It’s the only subject I can’t do well in. I need to do well in it.” for her own sanity she supposed. “plus, i was hoping I could get a tip or two. if you’d want to? pretty please? I’ll supply you with any food you want.”

Charity shook her head, delicate laugh leaving her as she considered Hestia one of the few people at school who she could join in their own cultural appeals. She had to shift around a bit, physically and mentally, to think of how to answer the question. “Well, you know why you do it. So the only silly thing would be if you didn’t like it and kept doing it anyway.” Self-control was a practice, one she’d learned quite young. Somehow it was still something others were struggling with at sixteen and seventeen years old, it didn’t make much sense. “I don’t know, but write that down somewhere. I think you just need to balance yourself. If you can’t take a moment to think about why you’re doing something it may be best to not do it at all. You can still end up feeling awful if you are living like it’s your last day. You have to think about what you want to feel at the end, not right at the moment.”

“It’s not so much that I don’t like it,” Tia answered softly, stopping her fingertips for a moment. “I’m just, not sure if I like all the reasons why I have it happen.” She didn’t wish to feel so alone anymore, some things just never seemed to balance out in her. Maybe it’s what she hadn’t seen when she remembered the time with her parents, repeating in her head over and over again like the stories her mom used to read to her so she would sleep. The closeness she doesn’t have with her father. The vitriol he stores for her. 

“I don’t want to feel like this, anymore.” that darkness that seemed to loom over her head when anything went wrong. “Write it down,” she repeated, thinking that a great idea. Listening intently to Char, she heard what she said and it hit her a bit. She was thankful she had Charity, that she could help her see things she would blind herself to. ‘That’s sort of dark, but I see what you mean. Anywhere can be a bad or good place, it depends on where your mind is at? if it was your last day, what do you think you’d do?”

“Aye, it’s like blue and stuff.” Emma’s eyes turned back to the other student. The actual headband was likely long gone, but the search gave her an excuse to be back down here. “It couldn’t have been all that long ago now. You’d like it if ye saw it. Goes with everything, it does. I think I remember it be wider on the top with wee strands that tie under yer hair.”

            “  if  ye  can  hold  yer  drink ,  drunk  anything  can  be  class  ”  mary  declared  with  a  knowing  nod .  “  aha !  i  knew  ye’d  be  keen !  ”

Scarlett’s mouth dropped open and she scrunched her eyebrows down in complete and total disbelief. “Do you not know you are never supposed to call out a blemish on another woman? You’re supposed to tell me how perfect I look and that you cannot possibly fathom why I feel the need to place products on my already flawless face and that it is simply society pressuring me to look polished beyond reality!” she gasped, still reaching out to hopefully snatch the potion from Hestia’s hands before she moved it out of reach. “You’re rude. Now help me clean this up before I spiral any further down this pit of despair known as adolescence.” 

Tia’s head tilted back in shock, not expecting the reaction. Then the girl was taking the potion and she crossed her arms over her chest. A huff leaving her pouted lips. “Did you know that you’re difficult? My rule is don’t say anything to someone that they couldn’t fix in ten seconds, well, this will fix in ten seconds. Plus, it’s just that big red thing on your face.” The last part was a little petty, she would admit, but it made her laugh. “If you really feel that way you don’t have to use it, wouldn’t want to hurt your flawless face.” Her tone now teasing, “Hmm, only if you say please. Then I will help you all you want.”

            “  a  mean  you  sayin'  a  shouldn’t  try  sliding  down  the  bannisters  after  three  firewhiskys  just  makes  me  wanna  try  it  even  more ,  ”

Ted knew it was too late to be out of bed, especially for a generally rule-abiding fellow like him. But he couldn’t help it, and it wouldn’t take long to get to the owlery and back to his dormitory. Students snuck out of bed often enough - he should know, he caught enough of them on his prefect rounds - it didn’t have to be a big deal. 

Getting to the owlery and mailing his letter went off without a hitch, much to his relief. It wasn’t until he was headed back to the Hufflepuff common room that he heard something from behind him. Ted jumped, clutching his wand tightly, pointing the light at the end in the direction of where the sound had come from. 

“Blimey, you scared me half to death!” he whispered urgently, “What are you doing out and about at this hour?”

Hestia had really been wanting it. She couldn’t sleep, couldn’t get her thoughts off of it. That’s when she decided to risk it. Coming out of the kitchens with an small basket full of blueberry muffins, she thought she was in the clear. Then a light was on her and she froze in fear, clutching the muffins to her chest and wincing. When she realized it at least wasn’t a professor, she let out a puff of air. Keeping her voice low as well. “Me? You’re the one with the light.” Then she saw it was Ted and groaned a little, a small look of please have mercy on me, crossed her eyes. “I really wanted these. I got too full at dinner, and yes i realize, ‘is this something you should be sneaking out for, tia?’ well, my answer is yes. I needed one. It was haunting my dreams.” 

Moving closer and batting her lashes a few times, she playfully offered a muffin. “A muffin in exchange for not writing me up? Plus, you’re up too buddy. I could ask you the same thing!”

“No, just wandering around. I think i left a hairband in here a while ago.” Emma quickly shifted herself from the brooms to the space by the lockers, as if a headband from a year ago would still be somewhere in the corner collecting dust. Through the window she could see the posts of the stadium. It was almost a year to the day since she was on a broom and playing. Maybe she was better then. “I love me hairband so you can see the vitality in finding it, aye? It brings out me eyes.”

remus always felt like he was physically on fire. whether that be from his emotions or if it was from his bones literally breaking. remus always wondered what it felt like to not feel this sort of impending doom looming over his head. he didn’t even know why he was sat here like this, eyes drifting over the same few sentences in his DADA textbook.

            ❛  lycanthropy: the supernatural transformation of a person into a wolf. these beasts transform at the peak of every full moon and are a threat to all beings that cross it’s path. there is no known cure for lycanthropy. ❜

he hated that technically this book was correct, he never really knew why he’d never snapped. truthfully he often got tired of the sigmas against his kind but it wasn’t as if he actually associated with the idea that he was. fingers traced the diagram laid out on the page– detailing how the transformation takes place. they wrote about it in a taboo way, a real bullshit excuse in teaching students how this actually worked. though, he didn’t really imagine that there were any nice werewolves out there… often times he didn’t think he was entirely nice. most of the time he felt like he was breaking the foundation of his life. one push and he would tumble hopelessly in the pit of his own pity. 

sighing rather softly he closed the textbook with a soft little slam, not actually caring that he was in the library. what were they going to do? give a prefect detention for slamming a book and getting upset about the idea of werewolves? nah, they liked remus too much. so he just sat there for a moment, hoping that no one would notice him sulking. sitting with his hands over his eyes. he needed someone to talk to him, but he’d never seek them out.  // @petrificusstarter​

hestia had been combing through the library aisles, running her fingertip along so many worn spines had even given a soft color to her skin. dust, magic and ink. a pile of books floated behind her as she turned pages and searched for what she wanted. another book to the pile. she was brushing up on next weeks lessons, a common thing she did to stay ahead. to not get too stressed between classes, quidditch, and having an active social life. her small frame and soft steps left her much undetected on a normal day, let alone one where she is drowning herself in books. 

the delicate sound of whooshing pages, her turning the corner and bumping into something solid. something that was sighing. she looked up and grinned when she realized it was remus, only for her smile to falter as she took in his state. reading his body language like one of her books, she slid easily into the spot beside him. floating books coming to lay beside her. “hey you,” she started carefully, “not that i’m against sleepovers in the library, is this really the comfiest place for a nap?” she was teasing, trying to lighten his mood. not wanting to stare at him like she was worried, she looked to her paint stained hands. noticing just now that she hadn’t completely washed it all off from her works earlier. 

lily tried not to laugh from the safety of her umbrella, an object she wasn’t sure half the students would even recognize but offered so many good uses. “oh, hey!” she giggled as hestia tried to throw egg on her. “i tried to warn you and this is the thanks i get?”

“i was lost in my book, does it really count if i didn’t properly hear you?” she continued to fling the egg off her book, “where is your trusty umbrella now, oh savior?” she mocked with a laugh, pulling out her wand and cleaning off her book, her clothes. tia wrapped her arm around lily’s neck for a side hug. “thank you for trying to save me from raining eggs. i’m going to get that poltergeist one day, just you wait. now, do you have any plans for tonight?” she stuffed her book in her bag, looking over to the other.

“Is that so?” she asked with a raise of an eyebrow. She was so curious and she had a triumphant smile on her face as hestia finally gave in. “that’s barely anything. most peoples cooking could be better.” astrid laughed with a nod of her head. “So that limits it to about half the people in Hogwarts.” Astrid replied with a laugh. 

hestia scoffed out a laugh back, “i’m so sorry i don’t have the latest gossip to fill you in on,” voice playfully sarcastic, she took another bite of food and flipped a page of her book. it was hard for tia to keep her hands still, they always needed to be doing something. painting, flipping pages, twirling around quills. the fast, constant need for movement helped her seeking greatly. “i’m sure of you needed some you could consort with rita.” the girl was not on tia’s nice list. “or we could eavesdrop?” then she snorted softly. “really narrows it down, doesn’t it? anyone you know that might be in need of a prank?”

“i’d take cover if i were you, i can see peeves heading this way at break neck speed, not a good sign.” she fashioned her own little umbrella from her wand just in time to avoid being egged. “hate to say i told you so.”

barely looking up from her book, she only caught the last few words lily had sent her way. eyes widening in confusion. “not a good sign of what?” and then, splat. tia didn’t even have time to gasp, only looking disappointed at her soiled pages. “oh, rub it in why don’t you!” she protested, trying not to start laughing. “you couldn’t have held the umbrella over a little, lil? my book! my poor book. and my clothes. my book never hurt anybody,” then the laughter came as she started to shake her egg cover book in the others direction. 

“oh but now i’m definitely intrigued as to what you would say if you were commenting.” astrid laughed. she had always been pretty curious and she definitely wasn’t one ot miss out if there was a little bit of gossip to be heard. Astrid had always had a healthy appetite. Most of the time eating more than both her mother and father combined. Astrid raised an eyebrow as she listened to what Hestia had to say. “Oh, I think that, that is a must.” The blonde nodded. “Depends who you were thinking about?” 

“i’d comment no comment,” tia shot back with a playful zeal, “okay, fine.” she drew out the word dramatically. ‘my nan’s cooking could be..better.” long suspecting her bad cooking tendencies came from dna. “Someone funny, someone who might actually appreciate the joke. one not prone to absolutely trying to bite off our heads.”
