“only if you want to, i didn’t mean to imply — “ she blushed, she felt a little weird offering without being prompted. “i don’t think fighting fire with fire will lessen the smoke in the air, we’ll just see more things burn.” she said in response to that. “and just because they use them doesn’t mean we have to stoop to their level. it’s just going to end in death and disaster.” she said sadly, energy draining right out of her. “i don’t think more bad is a requirement for good.”

astrid shook her head frantically as lily started to go back on herself. “no, no, no, i would love it if you could tutor me, actually.” she laughed and nodded. astrid thought that it was an incredibly nice offer from the other. “that definitely makes sense.” the blonde nodded. she sighed though, as lily continued. astrid wasn’t sure what she thought. sometimes, she thought people relied too much on the ministry. “doesn’t it seem like they’re getting a little desperate? i mean - if they’re willing to stoop to this, how bad is it?”

astrid laughed as she looked over to the other. she had been studying all day, in the library and she was really struggling to concentrate. “marlene?” astrid whispered. “marlene, can we go and do something please? i’m going to lose my mind in here.” she had no idea what they could do. astrid was itching to get outside and away from even the idea of studying. 

      𝑎   ℎ𝑎𝑙𝑓 - 𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑒𝑑   ℎ𝑢𝑚  𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑠     barty  at  the  statement ,    looking  up  at  her  with  a  raised  brow  again ,    through  it  is  less   judging   and  more   questioning   this  time  around .    ❛    really ?    i  find  most  hate  it .    it   is   a  lot  of  observation  and  following  along  to  instruction  though ,    while  charms  feels  like  a  game  of   chance   sometimes .    depends  on  your  preference .   ❜      his  face  falls  flat .    ❛    my  hair   is   down .    you   just  make  it  very  hard  not  to  keep  my  guard   up . ❜ 

“It gets bad when I think its done…last time they just cracked and popped right in front of me. I haven’t tried anything since.” On some level, she was disappointed in her inability to make a simple recipe work. The moment came where she had to break away and think over what Astrid suggested. “I guess that would be okay. It is lovely out again and that never seems to last for so long here. Let’s go.”

“Oh my god, really?” Astrid asked with a raise of an eyebrow and a laugh. “Maybe neither of us should try and bake again then, huh? Because it doesn’t seem like it’s gonna go well. We’ll just leave it to the house elves?” Astrid watched as Celia thought over her suggestion. She half expected the other to say no. “Excellent!” astrid smiled at the other as she nodded her head before she started to walk. “How was your break, then?”

“i could help? i mean i don’t know if i’m any good as a tutor but i could try?” she offered. charms was her specialty after all, alongside potions as her best courses. “no, i’m not. i don’t think ti will solve anything and only sets a dangerous precedent. they’re called unforgivables for a reason and now they can just be used without evidence or trial. i don’t like it at all.” she admitted openly. 

astrid smiled as lily spoke. she hadn’t been getting at that but she knew that she wouldn't’ complain about a little bit of help. “if you’re sure you don’t mind, that would be great, actually.” she laughed as she nodded. astrid nodded as lily spoke. she thought that she agreed with the other, but she couldn’t help but play devils advocate sometimes. “but if things are really that bad, and those spells are being used against them, surely they should be allowed to use them in defence? i am totally with you. i still think they should be tracked and make sure that they’re not being taken advantage of but --” she shrugged her shoulders. “sometimes bad things have to happen in order for the good to come, you know?”  

hestia scoffed out a laugh back, “i’m so sorry i don’t have the latest gossip to fill you in on,” voice playfully sarcastic, she took another bite of food and flipped a page of her book. it was hard for tia to keep her hands still, they always needed to be doing something. painting, flipping pages, twirling around quills. the fast, constant need for movement helped her seeking greatly. “i’m sure of you needed some you could consort with rita.” the girl was not on tia’s nice list. “or we could eavesdrop?” then she snorted softly. “really narrows it down, doesn’t it? anyone you know that might be in need of a prank?”

astrid shrugged her shoulders. she could obviously hear the sarcastic tone but she decided not to even blink at it. astrid laughed as hestia mentioned rita. she could sense that the other wasn’t keen and astrid had yet to make up an opinion on her. she thought that she could be useful, that someone had to know as much as rita did. though astrid had always been a bit of a soft touch with people. she was definitely someone who was easy to pull the wool over her eyes. “maybe i will have to go and talk to her. see if she’s got anything interesting to share.” astrid nodded her head. “the gryffindor boys can take a joke, no?” the blonde asked with a raise of an eyebrow and a laugh. 

“i’d comment no comment,” tia shot back with a playful zeal, “okay, fine.” she drew out the word dramatically. ‘my nan’s cooking could be..better.” long suspecting her bad cooking tendencies came from dna. “Someone funny, someone who might actually appreciate the joke. one not prone to absolutely trying to bite off our heads.”

“Is that so?” she asked with a raise of an eyebrow. She was so curious and she had a triumphant smile on her face as hestia finally gave in. “that’s barely anything. most peoples cooking could be better.” astrid laughed with a nod of her head. “So that limits it to about half the people in Hogwarts.” Astrid replied with a laugh. 

“it’s easy to forget even the most helpful spells. but i love charms so i’ve got most of them memorized.” she said happily, daydreaming about the charms she’d even created herself. she laughed at that, it was unfortunately true. “oh i did! i was so concerned something bad would happen, though i guess it did just after break ended.” she meant the new policy of using unforgivables, it was a bad precedent to set but when fighting a war it seemed extreme measures needed to be taken. fighting fire with fire would only make the whole world burn though.

“oh yeah? can we swap brains or something please? because i am so not good with charms.” astrid laughed as she shook her head. she was so curious about people who were naturally talented at something, astrid had always struggled. she nodded along with lily as she spoke. she had been concerned too. “so i assume that you’re not a fan of the recent ministry announcement?” she asked. if astrid was honest, she probably thought the same as lily. she found it difficult to understand why they thought that was okay and a reasonable response. 

        𝑏𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑦  𝑚𝑒𝑒𝑡𝑠  ℎ𝑒𝑟  𝑒𝑦𝑒      out  of  the  corner  of  his ,    deciding  to   breathe   out  a  laugh  with  the  shake  of  his  head .    he  resumes  his   ministrations   at  working  the  food  on  his  plate .    ❛    i   do   feel  that  way  in  potions  sometimes .    maybe  it’s  the   same   for  him .   ❜       he  meets  her  comment  with  the   lightest   curl  to  the  edge  of  his  lips ,    still  shooting  a   pointed   look .     ❛    aye ,    and  then  you  can  cost  hufflepuff  another   eighty   points .  ❜

“here, lets get you cleaned up.” she took out her wand and said the scourgify spell, getting the egg off the blonde. “he seems to be doing this more often since break ended, think he missed us?”

“oh - thank you. i actually don’t think i’d have thought of that.” astrid shook her head with a laugh. she wasn’t the most skilled when it came to magic. “of course he missed us. who else was he going to torture.” astrid asked with a raise of an eyebrow and a laugh. “did you have a good break though?” 

        ❛    ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑠𝑒  𝑒𝑙𝑣𝑒𝑠   𝑑𝑜   ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑝  𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒       all  the  difference .    can’t  imagine  your   dad   dedicates  nearly  as  much  of  his  time  to  it ,   ❜      he  notes ,    shrugging  with  a  bit  of  a  laugh  as  he  forks  at  his  plate .    astrid’s  question  has  him  halting  the  movements . ❛   well ,   ❜       barty  looks  up ,    tossing  her  a   knowing   look .    woe  betide  the   moments   until  barty  writes  her  out  a   proper   cease  and  desist  letter .       ❛    what’s  your   schedule   say ?  ❜     he  prompts .

“I understand. I’m awful when it comes to cooking. Well, not all cooking. I think it’s baking that is the real problem. Something always seems to just….erupt. It’s not very fun after a while.” Celia elaborated excessively before swirling around the bits left in her dish. “I think I should probably do some reading. I try every day because that’s the only way I can study. Sometimes, speaking it aloud really helps. And that’s much easier to do in the common room than in the library or in the dormitories.”

“I don’t even attempt to bake anymore.” Astrid laughed as she shook her head, “Honestly, it ends up more on me than in the actual pot. It’s a genuine disaster.” The blonde smiled at the others. “Studying, come on celia, you can do better than that.” Astrid smiled at the other. She cared a lot about her house family, and that absolutely included Celia. “Why don’t we go for a walk or something? Get some fresh air? Have a little fun? Then I promise we can come back and i’ll help you study.  

emmeline was inhaling the food as the girl begun to talk to her, nodding along between bites - she wasn’t wrong, the food here was marvellous and the idea that this was going to be the last year that she’d get to enjoy it, well that made her more miserable than she’d like to admit. “be grateful you get it for another year –” she sighed as she took another bite out of her pie, “it’s going to be a life of burnt toast for me as this rate –” her skills in the kitchen were quite disastrous, really her mum didn’t even ask for help anymore - emmeline would do more damage than good. 

“do you consider potions work fun?” she joked, “i thought i’d do some prep - just so i’m ready for dear ol’ sluggy’s sneak attack essay - that man really thinks he’s clever, he always traumatizes us fresh out of break –”

astrid laughed as she listened to emmeline. she liked that she wasn’t the only one that seemed to be inhaling her food, nor the only one that had missed the food here. “oh but if you’re nice, i might be able to send you some non perishables. then you have something to look forward to.” astrid smiled at the other. “though i think that after the next year, the same could be said for me. did you know you could burn pasta? because i didn’t. until i did it.” she shook her head with a laugh.
