kill me now (by @/godokgodok112)
ok well youâre all in MY in-group
My least favorite things about anti- UBI discourse is always the techbros whining that "nobody is going to work anymore! People will just watch Netflix all day!" and I have 2 responses:
1) Who the fuck cares. Who the fuck cares what people do with their time! That's kind of the fucking point!
2) People aren't going to stop laboring. Housework (look, it's right there in the word!) will still need to be done. So will maintenance on our homes and personal spaces. Children will still need carers, as will the elderly and disabled. There are millions of examples of ~work~ that we do all the time, uncompensated, that won't suddenly stop because we aren't forced to sell our labor to provide corporation's profits.
I'm not surprised that what is traditionally women's work is invisible to these dipshits, but it never fails to anger me.
Anyway. Join the IWW.
Field studies have been conducted in several countries now, and the result is always the same - people will just flop about for a couple of months to recover from the burnout most people who have a job live with, and then they look for something to do. Some get a job with reduced hours, and some start doing charitable stuff like volunteering in soup kitchens and teaching others to do whatever their particular skill is. They socialize more, they are happier, and on average, people will work more, not less.
But the thing is, employers suddenly have to think about how to make their jobs appealing enough for someone to come and do them! It's hard to find someone to work for you for long hours under horrible conditions, if they can just choose not to; which shows you how voluntary our current system actually is.
đśPeople won't stop working! If so, fuck it!đľ
I'll be making sure we still have engineers and machinists haha

many many delicious things to analyze about the first episode of ticket to heaven, but i think the thing i'm stuck the most on is the drastically different reactions that barth and tanrak have to the statues of mary, jesus, and joesph
like. tanrak looks at those statues as a child and it brings him comfort knowing eventually, one day, when he dies and goes to heaven, he can have that. in tanrak's mind, god will one day give him that loving, happy family that was so cruelly taken from him on earth. seeing it brings him comfort, even so many years later, because he still holds onto that faith and that belief that one day, he'll get that.
but barth looks at it and it makes him so upset and uncomfortable he has to walk out of the church. because when barth looks at it, he sees the thing god took from him. he sees a happy family that he doesn't get to have because of god. because god is what has driven a wedge between him and his parents, because their beliefs have made him an imperfect son in their eyes.
religion and god as a comfort for one and as a tormentor for the other. maybe my god isn't as kind as yours....
No scene will ever be as important to me as this one is.
the scene of Tanrak as a small child and needing to believe in heaven because he lost his parents is so cutting.
one of the hardest things for me as an adult who was raised in catholicism and now chooses not to raise my own children that way is trying to sit with them with the ideas of death and mortality. experiencing this made it so obvious to me why organized religions that focus on the afterlife concept are still so appealing. who wants to accept that it's possible we just stop existing?
when they come to me struggling with this I do my best to give them solace and support and understanding without glossing over what I believe to be true. when they go to relatives or talk with friends who hold christian beliefs and they tell them about heaven, my kids instantly chose to believe that.
when they talk about faith in this drama I keep thinking how comforting is certainty...

listen up fellas cause horrible quality aside i find myself already going through the shots and this one particularly drives me CRAZY.
Who is gonna talk about their choice to put Barth right at the bottom of the stairs to heaven, and Tanrak amongst demons, threatening to corrupt everyone on the right path with their sinful ways? Even though it is Tanrak who is, from a catholic standpoint, fifty steps closer to god than Barth and Barth the one with the seemingly corrupting influences thatâll push Tanrak to sin and lose his faith?
Not to speak of the school crest and statue of mary on Tanraks side of the shot and the open door and the clock on Barths. There is also the reflection of light and the windows visible right there, while Tanraks side is gloomy and dark except for that one speck of light on mary.
Itâs a very, very deliciously arranged shot and it makes clear where they want us to position ourselves, as if thatâs not a given. Cause they make it pretty clear that Barth is on the right side. That Barth is closer to true revelation, to a way out, to light, to happiness, that itâs only a matter of time until heâll leave all of this behind and it will be the right choice, that his decision to reject catholic dogma is the way to salvation, while Tanrak is still caught in literal hell between the influences of the school and his desire to see his parents again.
And to drive the message home we have the priest there as well, between Tanrak and the stairs, positioning himself as an obstacle for Tanrak to escape, turning the arguably well-meaning priest into a demon that condemns Tanrak to lifelong misery.

even with those four numbers there are countless possible combinations good luck with figuring out which one is the right one you punk
*straightens calculator*
Itâs pretty likely that itâs a four digit number, and as there are four digits chosen there, that means that there cannot be any repetition. This mean that there are:
n!/(n-4)! possible orders. As ânâ is 4 (number of digits available). 4!/0! which becomes 4x3x2x1/1 which simplifies to 24. That means that there are 24 possible combinations of codes. This would take you about two or three minutes to input all possible codes.
Unless an alarm goes off if you donât get it right in 3 tries
*straightens calculator again*
Kick the fucking door in
well âtechnicallyâ the code is most likley 1970. statistically, a majority of people, when told to choose a 4 digit code will choose their birth year. and this key pad is obviously a few years old to put it nicely, thats most likley it.Â
some sherlock holmes shit just went down over here
No, no, no. Donât base your deductions of psychology. Letâs talk chemistry. When you first press a button, thereâs more of the natural oils on your skin, and therefore it wears down the numbers on the keys faster. Obviously 0 is the first one, then. Try 0791 first.
Sherlock out.
it got better
and this is why the sherlock fandom could either rule the world or end itâŚ.
Close, but not quite, I think. People will almost always choose a number they can remember. Whatâs memorable about 0791? Try 0719 - a birthday, 19th of July. That is more likely.
Those deductions are great and all, but unnecessary.
The light is green.
The door is already open.
And thatâs why we have a John Watson.
