me and the girls
“i think there’s something about being a young woman that feels very murderous. that’s what i was trying to get with a song like ‘dream girl evil.’ it can be dangerous for people to think you’re incredibly nice. when you get, ‘you’re an angel,’ that seems like such a high place to fall from. when i see messy or violent or terribly behaved women, especially young women, there’s a liberation. to not have to try and survive by being good.”

if you need fewer than 8 hrs of sleep keep that shit to yourself. or do one better and simply lie and say that 8+ hrs of sleep is necessary for you. if you’re out here loudly bragging about ur 4 hour sleep maximum i consider you an oppressor. best case scenario is people clap for you and feel jealous. worst case scenario you signal to the capitalist dogs that we should all try to be like you. the risk is too great and the reward too little

What if Pokemon could be Animal Crossing villagers 🍃
Pokemon Crossing is the crossover game I desire most
…and, at the time of his death, he was one of the most hated people in the USA.
The FBI sent him a letter trying to convince him to commit suicide. Don’t let this revisionist bullshit slide. The things they say now about protests, kneeling, etc, are the same things they said about the sit-ins and marches.

Look at this vintage political cartoon. Reactions to MLK and BLM are near identical.

i missed him :,]
Having a child is a long term commitment to a heavy, heavy responsibility which demands energy, attention, and time.
To have a child is to bring an entire person into the world. This person can not consent to this. This person is inherently vulnerable, hardwired to depend on you, and must be taught the skills neccessary to one day care for themself.
When you have a child, that child's well being is entirely on you. It's your job to keep them safe, to keep them fed, cloathed, and happy. It's your job to make sure they feel loved.
When you choose to have a child, you are signing up to spend years and years of resources on that child. That is your choice. The child was not alive and could not agree to your decision to drag them out of the void of nonexistence. The child was not asked if they wanted to experience an entire lifetime of conciousness, and all of the potential suffering and agony that comes with that.
That decision is entirely that of the parent who has made the choice to have a child.
You are not "granting the gift of life." You are not doing this hypothetical child a favor by having them. You are doing this for you, because you wanted to be a parent. You wanted to have the experience of raising a child.
This means that if you have a child, you owe that child. You owe them time, and love, and safety, and care. You asked for this, it is now your responsibly to follow through.
Children are not a toy. They aren't a fancy new car for you to parade to your friends. They aren't a fashion accessory for you to put on the shelf when you lose interest. They aren't a mini you. They aren't a magic cure-all to your trauma, and they aren't there to fill some void in your chest.
They are a vulnerable person who is easily abused and neglected and who will be at your mercy throughout much of their development period.
A parent owes their child. Failing to follow through with the responsibility they signed up for is a failing on the parent's part. Making the child feel guilty for the crime of existing is the fault of the parent. A child is never a burden.
Abusive and neglectful parents are failures as parents. They could not do the bare basics of what the job entails and then they blame the child for a crime that the parents themselves committed.
despite all my dread i am still just a rat made of thread
no, i don’t have a “dream job.” i want to spend my days reading and writing and lazing in the afternoon sun. i want to bake bread and brownies and apple crumble. i want to grow my own vegetables and plant a rainbow of flowers. i want to be with nature. i want to be at peace.
The gaang’s all here!

i don’t know which grimdark hollywood man needs to hear this, but seeing a major plot point coming but still being blown away/absolutely devastated by it because it’s well written and ties the whole narrative together is 1000909900X more satisfying for your audience than a nonsensical plot twist pulled from your unwashed ass for shock value
Saving the tags from @nightingalerising because they're PERFECT
It's like... you see it coming, from miles away. The inevitably is absolutely crushing, stifling. Yet you still hope thag maybe, somehow, it'll end up different
Kinda off-topic, but see also: Titanic. One of the biggest and long lasting “criticisms” I’ve heard against that movie is that there was no point to it being made. You go into the movie knowing that the boat is going to sink. Hell, it was expected to be a total flop while it was still in production, because where’s the tension in a movie about the Titanic? And I could go on an entire rant here about how that criticism is baseless because the movie is about the characters and not the fucking boat. But a big part of the reason why this movie still works, why we still watch it 24 years later, why we care so much about the characters is because we already know they’re on a doomed voyage. We know the boat is going to sink, we have information that they do not, but we’ve come to care about them over the course of an hour and a half. So when the iceberg finally makes its entrance, we know what’s going to happen, but we hope that maybe this time the boat will turn.
There's even a name for it! This is called dramatic irony! When the audience knows something the characters don't which makes their actions ironic. "I'm king of the world!" No, you aren't, and I know why.
When we were doing Tragedy in school, we looked at Shakespeare's 'Othello', and the teacher pointed out that everyone walking into that first production of the play back in the 17th century would have known that it was going to end badly.
Why?
Because the bloody thing is called the 'Tragedy of Othello'. It's sign posted from before you even enter the Theatre— "this is gonna be super fucked up and they're all probably going to die".
Doesn't matter. People still watched.
I'm not going to argue that plot twists aren't great. We all enjoy the moment of shock and surprise that comes with a good twist.
But good is the key word there. A good twist works at least twice. The first time it catches you off guard, the second time you get to recognise all the foreshadowing leading up to it.
A bad twist might work the first time— if you manage to distract your audience enough in the moment that they don't realise how little sense it makes— but it's probably not going to stand a rewatch.
