I always say that the thing which sets Sargent apart as a portrait artist is that he draws/paints literally every subject - no matter their gender, social position, life vs representational drawing etc - like he is right that minute realising he's desperately in love with them. And it rules every single time.
Examples pulled just from his Wikipedia page most popular works. Absolutely devastating scenes for bisexuals for over a century
Don't forget the ALLIGATORS. He loves them too.
The 2026 Gender Census is now open!
[ survey.gendercensus.com ]
The 13th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th August 2026.
It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.
After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.
If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks. Every share is extremely helpful!
Survey URL: https://survey.gendercensus.com
The survey is open to anyone anywhere who speaks English and feels that the gender binary doesn’t fully describe their experience of themselves and their gender(s) or lack thereof.
Thank you so much!

they used to let kids have real fun
There's an xkcd for that :3
Side note: polonium-210 is a very dangerous isotope, however it "does not pose a radiation hazard when kept outside the body", as the alpha particle it emits have very little penetration power and cannot pierce even the outer layers of dead skin. It has still killed countless people, though, not because of children's rings, but because of tobacco. Polonium latches onto and concentrates in tobacco leaves, leading to heavy smokers being exposed to more radiation than survivors of the Chernobyl disaster.
It's always wild to me seeing comments about different toxins like this on information about random things in the past, but it's never discussed when it comes to cigarettes.
sometimes cultural differences are really small things. it's the name of a cleaning spray. it's professional long-arm quilting services. it's the direction of the sea. it's how you prepare the same coffee. and there is a temptation, because these are small things that don't feel like A Cultural Tradition Requiring Respect, to argue over which thing is right. because we need to be right about something. shoes off in the house. how to eat with a fork. small things. but the small things are the culture, and you have to treat people decently in the small things.

Reblogging this once again because, once again, it made me laugh.
Every time this makes me laugh so hard I almost barf idk why I'm so weak to this
One time, while working in the drive-thru, I accidentally mixed up "I'll see you at the window" and "I'll have it for you at the window" and said "I'll have you at the window."

physicists: think they know enough to be an authority in other fields
chemists: don't think they know enough to be an authority in other fields
biologists: aren't even sure they know enough to be an authority in their own firld
mathematicians: don't understand why you seem to think they'd ever want to leave the beautiful and pure realm of numbers and have anything to do with any other field
Just want you to know that I am very committed to Queer Science™️ and samples being representative of the broader populations, and so I just sent the link to the survey to my occupational therapist. I will also be forcing my psychologist to do it, which may be awkward, but sacrifices must be made for the greater good (working out how many people go by nature-themed nouns)
Thank you for your extremely scientific attitude! Innovative scientific discovery requires this kind of boldness. May this bring you, your OT and your psychologist closer together as a group. <3

Wait this is some galaxy brain shit actually, I'm gonna have to start doing this.
I like how teens are too young to figure out their sexuality unless its heterosexual
Idk how people find this old post like once a week but I will say as a closeted 15 year old nothing can describe how much confidence it gave me that everyone agreed with me. That it’s all bullshit. I was so angry and frustrated at the world not taking me seriously, and the thousands and thousands of people reblogging showed me that I wasn’t alone. I wasn’t crazy and heteronormativity is all bullshit. Being queer is as natural as breathing air.

the replacement of websites with apps sounds so backwards when you actually describe it. like hmm you have to download an entire program onto your device each time you want access to a portal, where it takes up storage indefinitely. somebody should invent an app where you can "browse" any portal just by typing in its address... 🥴
