TooToos are not even closely related to the PomPom family! They're actually more closely related to the clade that Werdos and Riffs were genetically "sourced" from. However, their tendency to "herd up" with travelling Sooza groups for safety eventually landed them as an honorary member of the Pomily, often being grouped with them.

While the outfit that this TooToo is wearing looks a bit ceremonial, it's actually quite the opposite. I would classify this as maybe a slightly formal practice outfit. It's customary for TooToos to always wear dresses/skirts no matter the occasion and being seen in public without a skirt--say, wearing shorts instead--is considered very impolite.

Anatomy

sooo let me start off with showing you each of the official Werdos.

notice their body shapes? all different, but notable to their appearance. for example, Tawkerr takes an upside-down triangle shape. Stoowarb takes on a rectangular shape.

and they all have something in common, despite their shapes — their arms and legs. their legs are noticeably bent (digitigrade, meaning they walk on their toes. when i was first drawing them, i thought of a Z to help me better shape their legs (an S would be better, now looking more at it). instead of on their soles like humans do.) but some are hooved. their feet can be just about anything that you want, hand-feet like an ape, hooves like a goat, or toes similar to humans. doesn’t really matter. for the arms, they have sorta human-like arms. two circle-like shapes for the shoulders, then their forearms (or lower arms if that’s easier to remember. things before the hands) are wider and larger. their arms will typically lay when fully relaxed around their feet. real long arms. you can make them shorter though, as we can see in Charrkoll - its arms lie around its thighs instead.

their horns also vary — but i would say that when making a Werdo, remember that their horns are usually based off of real-word animals with horns instead of more unique shapes (but you can do what you want.) their horns are not black, they’re brown-ish. they also wear Gold Jewelry around their horns, containing various patterns per Werdo. usually simple patterns, but you can do whatever. the Jewelry does not have to be like bands, they can be rings, if you’d prefer. depending on the horns the Werdo has (or just one horn) the size of the Jewelry will vary. for the texturing of their horns, it is notably either ringed, rigid, or smooth. Tawkerr has a crack in its horn. Charrkoll’s horns are hollow. when adding texture to their horns, you can add cracks or scratches or other things - you can even break part of the horn entirely. BUT. remember that Werdo horns likely have the bone still inside, along with Keratin (Keratin & bone make up most animal horns here in our world) so if it were to become TOO short, it won’t grow back, and it may become painful. also since it’s Keratin, slash the stuff that makes part of our nails and hair, their horns likely grow. you can make their horns overgrown, or not yet fully developed. if you’re drawing a Monsterling Werdo, please keep the horn-growing thing in mind. no baby human world animal has fully developed horns as soon as they come into this world.

their hands are sort of larger than their face, typically. they have only three fingers. pointer, middle, & their ring finger. depending on the Werdo, the hands can be slimmer, or thicker - or have nails like claws, talons, or just general nails. only about two Werdo’s nails look natural though (Stoowarb & Charrkoll) & the others look painted (IM A VERY FIRM BELIEVER THAT TAWKERR HAS PAINTED NAILS.)

their eye-shape can vary, oval shaped, egg shaped, or upturned so far from what we’ve seen from the Official Werdos. (again, you can do whatever if you’re making an oc.)

their eye color typically has two colors. (ex. Parlsona: Blue fading to Yellow) but they can also have just one. (ex. Maggpi: Green)

Their lips are similar to humans lips, just fuller on the bottom. their teeth are similar to human teeth. typically in sprites, though, they only usually show their bottom teeth. rarely do they not smile.

all Werdos are QUITE tall. according to Monster Handler Matt, in MSM Live #015 he says that Werdos are around 7-8 ft. tall compared to Riff. meaning, Tawkerr stands around 7ft, and Stoowarb stands around 8ft. other Werdos lie in between. when making a Werdo, you can make them a little shorter or a little taller. one of my ocs is 6’7, and another is 8’3.

ALSO REGARDING THEIR ARMS they CANNOT put their arms behind their backs! their anatomy (lack of neck / their bodies usually don’t have a visible one, their shoulders are connected to their chests or heads) prevents them from doing that. if they were to do that i would assume it would be painful??? somewhat?? like if you weren’t very flexible and you tried doing the split. ESPECIALLY those like Tawkerr & Charrkoll. i would say like?? sort of behind their head is fine?? but lower parts. eh… don’t do it. (how do i know this? MSM Live #015.)

Naming, Bio Writing, Lyric Writing

coming from Monster Handler Matt (MSM Live #015), Werdos are named very pun-ily. they will contain the name of the VA, and then a word relating to something of speaking or singing (ex. Tawkerr: Dave Kerr & a play on “Talker”) so i usually do the same. but if you don’t plan on making the Werdo associated with an Island, it can just be related to something that they are associated with.

writing their bio is much like other Monstrous Bios, but typically, it’ll have SOMETHING related to their speech & a few things else about them. typically around 60-70 words (iirc,,,) per Werdo bio.

Werdo lyrics ALWAYS have something related to the Island at hand, and usually contain metaphors or some other word thingies. what im thinking of at the moment is the lyrics on Cold Island 👀 “Is it Cold Outside?”, “Nobody likes me, everyone’s afraid of me / It’s because I am weird.” they both sing about Cold, but in different forms. as said in MSM Live #015, they’re sort of embodying what Cold is really like — people associate winter with sadness or things similar, hence why the two Werdos say “Nobody likes me, everyone’s afraid of me.” All Werdos do something similar in their wordplay. when writing lyrics for a Werdo, always include something that associates with their Island/Islands. not really spoiling anything bc i don’t know if i actually WANT to have someone VA this but here’s an example of one of my Werdo’s (that i still need to design) lyrics: “The night always comes around, so why deny? / The dusk consumes the soul, devoid of any light” & these,, “You wanna take a ride on the shadows? / While ignoring the darkness that follows / To go on freely without a single care / Is simply stating that you’ll move on unaware” in those i included something relating to the Island it’s on, Shadow Islet, and including something related to the vibe of Shadows. the darkness is a common fear, so i thought it would be a good idea to sort of correlate the two (“To go on freely without a single care / Is simply stating that you’ll move on unaware”),, kind of a slight warning about something that may be lying inside of the dark that someone doesn’t know of👀👀👀👀 eyes emoji.

Designing

now onto the final parts of this 👀👀 i feel like designing a Werdo is quite easy.

first off, think about their environment. if they’re in a hotter environment, give them less of a coat. if they’re in a colder environment, make their coat more fluffy. or you can just give them scales.

try to make their designs semi-simple to work with. silhouettes are IMPORTANT in character design anyway😭 would a kid be able to draw them & still be recognizable? do they have a distinct silhouette that’s easy to spot?

their shaping (relating to the Anatomy part) can be almost anything. if anything, if it’s more unique, it helps make them more recognizable. for example, one of my Wanderer Island ocs has a star-shape unlike any other Werdo oc i have.

coloring can be just about anything. do you want it to have a gradient? something that blends in with its environment? something that stands out? spots? stripes? NOT NECESSARY but i would suggest to try to make it easy to draw if you plan on drawing them a lot😭😭 Spectep is a NIGHTMARE to color (rainbow fire💔💔.) &, try to keep your oc from having TOO many colors. Official Werdos don’t really have too many colors, & if anyone plans on making fanart, it’d be easier to color.

last thing — give them something signature that they do. all Werdos have a certain thing that really sticks with them. for example, Parlsona and its lip balm. Stoowarb and its jokes. my ocs, too, have signature things. Cavvoth and its intelligence. Ossirup and its love for Relics. i feel like that would make them more memorable 👀👀👀 ALSO THIS SORTA CORRELATES WITH THE BIO STUFF butttt it would make it better if you mentioned their signature things in their bio,, 👀👀👀 eyes emoji…
