Some things about this post since getting quite a few notes:

1. If you see this post, highly recommend taking it as an opportunity to set a timer for 15 minutes and switch over to ACTIVITY YOU ENJOY. if after those 15 minutes, you want to go back to scrolling, that's okay!

2. Huge shout out to this popping up in my notifs often, bc I do go back to activity.

3. I think there are times where scrolling is fine. Right now, for example, I'm being connected to a machine for two hours to donate plasma and platelets. I don't think Tolkien is a good fantasy writer because he scored the highest at some objective Best Fantasy Book Test that every fantasy writer has to take, I think he's a good fantasy writer because he created a world based on things that he was interested in. I feel like a lot of fantasy writers think that they need to create a whole language for their world because Tolkien did and obviously his books are the best so they have to emulate him, but Tolkien did that because he was a linguistics nerd. I think the lesson to be learned from him is not that you have to include elves and deep history and new languages, but that you have to write endlessly about the things you are a huge nerd about and use those things to create your fantasy world

frustrating to have been, as a community, speaking up about the far-right radicalisation vector that is transphobia — and specifically the communities that form around transphobia — and to have been ignored, only for cis people finally to notice when their guy expands his hatred to cover more groups.

“what happened to make Our Guy fall from grace???” it was transphobia. he got in with transphobes and started believing in their conspiracy theories and it’s a short step from there to every other bigotry.

to be clear: *every* bigotry is a far-right radicalisation vector. the moment you allow yourself to believe that entire populations of marginalised people are malignant is the moment you are ready to believe in *anything*.
