Lullaby for kittens

It honestly doesn’t seem like James has a milk allergy, it just really seems like he’s lactose intolerant. I am still breastfeeding (expressed milk in a bottle) and haven’t cut out dairy myself. I know that that would mean he’s still getting lactose considering breastmilk has lactose in it… But I don’t know how else to explain it.

As part of his solids diet, some of the items he’d get daily were things like shredded cheese, yogurt, and cottage cheese. Every single night he would get terrible gas regardless of whether we gave him simethicone. Like, screaming, straining and arching his back for up to an hour, until he’d finally pass the gas (which was always vile smelling). And then he’d be awake again in 1.5-2 hours to do it all over again. He was waking up 5-6 times per night.

Since we stopped feeding him those items, he hasn’t had a single episode like that. Now he wakes up 1-2 times per night whining and almost always goes right back to sleep with a little milk and some snuggling. (He can even occasionally get himself back to sleep, which is something he’d never been able to do before.)

It’s been about a week and a half since he had an episode. (EDIT: Well, he did have a bad night Monday night, but we think that was about the cabbage I ate). I’m going to wait a few more days and then slowly introduce some dairy products back in. Maybe it was just TOO MUCH lactose in between my milk and the solid items?

If you give him dairy again start with lactose free stuff, if he reacts to that too, then it's the protein.
