call me terminally academia-brained but i do think a lot of the fun of character analysis is figuring out how to build a compelling argument for a particular reading using lines of evidence from canon as well as meta/intertextual support

and you could say that what i’m saying here is basically “a lot of the fun of doing character analysis is doing character analysis” but let’s be real a lot of fandom character analysis is pretty heavily vibes-based. and i think that’s where i really chafe up against the traditional thought-terminating fandom attitude of like, everyone’s opinions hold equal weight and any interrogation of that is inherently hostile. because i think it’s fascinating to dig into where others are coming from in terms of their views on characters or dynamics or whatever, especially when they differ significantly from more commonly expressed views, and part of that digging is asking people okay what parts of canon are you drawing from to support your opinion? what parts of canon are you disregarding or downplaying? how does this argument hold up in the light of how race, gender, class, ability, etc. operate both in the piece’s in-fiction and real world contexts?

okay this is getting notes again from people baffled at the concept of roblox porn. ("you mean the blocky game for children?") some replies mention the universality of rule 34, which is a thing, but for roblox specifically you have to keep in mind that as a game it's been around for about 2 decades with most growth happening in the last 10 years. a cursory search indicates 200 million monthly active users in 2021, meaning a cohort of 13 year olds back then would be experiencing psychosexual development on that platform just in time to be 18 and churning out pornography right now. i initially made this post after coming across horny roblox artwork that was clearly not some guy going "heh >:) that lego ripoff game that exploits kids? here's what the characters would look like naked >:)" - this was heartfelt smut drawn by someone who lived it; this was fandom porn. we jerk off to what we grow up with, and we make art of what we jerk off to, a pipeline which this very website used to exemplify back when porn was still legal. as someone who beats it to cartoons and draws about it it is certainly not my place to judge. that's not even mentioning that 44% of roblox's playerbase seems to be 17 or older. in conclusion i have never played roblox (i did my time on second life instead) and minecraft came out a while after i'd already reached sexual maturity; therefore my dick remains completely soft regarding either game. thank you

and this part might make some people's head explode but: characters can be written to forgive things you personally wouldn't ever forgive. not everything is written as what you'd perceive to be the right choice. not everything is a self-insert & protagonists don't have to be relatable.
