i want to abuse my government expense account to buy grace candy
"Do you want a boyfriend/girlfriend?" no i want a best friend/roommate/soulmate that I can go on silly adventures with and hang out with and have deep intellectual discussions with and we can be life partners without any of the romance stuff
People are replicating the feeling of a Bethesda game IRL so well that I’m scared someone’s going to get caught clipped through the floor
ive never played a video game in my life and this is so fucking funny
Writers have two modes and they are "i haven't written in three weeks and i am rotting from the inside and everything feels wrong and i don't know who i am anymore" and "i wrote for four hours straight and forgot to eat and it's dark outside and when did that happen and i feel like a god" and there is nothing in between. no chill. no medium setting. just famine or feast and a very confused nervous system.

I'm already in love with the concept, and I'm wondering how magnetism and besides that radiation might could come into play in systems like this? I wanted to write a story about a planet that's so heavily magnetic that it just jams everything, how would that work? If not by magnetism, what would it be?
Not remotely covered by the system generator but I have snagged the physicist about it and got them talking because this is a fun question so:
Earth's magnetic field is in microtesla so even a pretty little increase will have an effect
Anything that involves moving electrons around will be affected - in power transmission, for example, electrons aren't moving all that fast but the charge is travelling at about two thirds the speed of light.
An electromagnetic wave (like light or radio waves) is half in the magnetic field so if your background magnetic field is strong enough you'd get something happening, but whether that's a block or an amplification is a question for a different kind of physicist.
Exactly how the magnetic field increase affects your signal transmission is out of field for either of us sorry.
Very good question!
Hi! I am taking my final exam for electromagnetism ii tomorrow at 3:30. So I’m not like an expert but I have had some recent experience.
My instinct is to say that actually the magnetic field probably wouldn’t do much provided that it’s constant or roughly constant with time; light is a pair of oscillating electric and magnetic fields, but because of the principle of superposition, light can still travel through electric and magnetic fields because the oscillation remains, it’s just that the ‘zero state’ shifts. That is, instead of oscillating between, say, positive and negative 35 nanoteslas (ie the strength of the magnetic field due to sunlight at the surface of the earth, according to this Reddit user (https://www.reddit.com/r/askastronomy/comments/1m96yjo/solar_magnetic_field_strength_at_earths_surface/) (I. Don’t want to do the math right now.)), it would oscillate between, say, 20.003 and 19.997 microteslas. However, this is exactly what happens on Earth, and we can still get sunlight and radio waves. Basically the same thing would happen on this hypothetical planet; the only way it would interfer with light is if it were also oscillating on a similar timescale- which is to say on the order of around a trillion times a second. This can’t happen due to a spinning metallic core, but if the planet were putting off blackbody radiation due to heat, I could conceive of that being sufficient to ‘jam’ some frequencies. However I’m not sure if that would happen at the desired frequencies at reasonable temperatures. This may be a case where you need to apply a little bit of Artistic License and do it anyways.

@kissysanguine was hoping this would happen, expressing uncertainty summons an expert :)

First meetings <3
I don't think Grace is as socially anxious as a lot of people are interpreting him to be
Don't get me wrong, he is absolutely socially awkward, but he also called the leading scientist in his field a staggering waste of carbon, presumably, to their face in front of an entire conference, considering he got fired for it
Grace is mild-mannered, and generally chilled out, and endearingly socially awkward, but he's also a brilliant scientist with unpopular ideas that he was willing to defend with fervor, which we see when Stratt first meets him
(The way he says "I don't know why that makes me such a nut" and him titling a section of his paper "the Goldilocks zone is for idiots" comes to mind, here)
I think he stepped away from academia, not just because he was fired, but because being deeply invested in a hugely unpopular opinion probably got extremely exhausting for him to defend, not because he was too anxious or afraid to stand by his opinions
Plus, being completely denied and dismissed just because he had different ideas about what elements were required for life has to have been disheartening
And, yeah, he was obviously very uncomfortable when Stratt pushed him into the conference room on the aircraft carrier, but he had just been throwing up into a cone and just stepped off of a who-knows-how-long flight, which I think would have anyone wrong-footed, not to mention it was his first time presenting/being in front of his peers in several years, so his reaction is super understandable and justified, and once he gets his bearings he has no qualms about pushing back against the proposed plan, he outright asks if they have a different plan
Ryland Grace is a highly educated scientist who was pushed out of his field for standing by unpopular theories and isn't afraid to challenge the status quo if he believes he's right about something
Idk, just something I've been thinking about :)

Happy Pride Month to all of my fellow aces!! 🖤🩶🤍💜
number one rule! never believe ur thoughts after 10 pm . unless its about The Character then believe all of your thoughts wholeheartedly
u guys scare me this is an untagged post Where are u coming from
Okay, this is Attempt #4!
I've been reading books and watching YouTube videos, and a lot of people say they do their bulk fermentation for up to 4 hours, depending on their room temperature, or until the dough doubles in size.
I tried 4 hours in Attempts #2 and #3, and it didn't work, my dough barely rose.
So for Attempt #4, I decided to ignore the clock and just wait until the dough actually doubled in size. And it took 17 hours (from 1 PM until 6 AM the next day)!
I honestly have no idea why it took so long. Maybe my starter is still very young? Maybe my room temperature is too cold? I really don't know.
But I was so happy when I woke up and saw that the dough had finally come alive overnight, like Pinocchio becoming a real boy lol! (when I checked it around midnight, it had only grown about 10%. Then five hours later, it suddenly looked like it was actually breathing.)
I got excited and scored it with a Link design as a charm. My original idea was to give Link a sword slash as the deep score, but I was afraid I'd mess up the drawing, so I ended up going with a simpler design instead.
Then I baked it for 1 hour at 200-210°C, with high hopes that this attempt would finally succeed, and the result was…
They're just silly
