A Princess in Distress
Here are some messy doodles of Agamemnon meeting Cassandra.
The moment he laid his eyes on her.
Now someone got inspired 👀 I am sure @ninastasia0 and @ikhoros would love to see this!
Honestly this deep tragedy of Cassandra but the implications of her story in some cases straight out sympathizing or wishing to protect Agamemnon have me intrigued. Like in Aeschylus one could say that no she speaks thus because she is afraid for her life because hers and Agamemnon's life are tangled together. However the fact that Philostratus in "Imagines" seemingly speaks on a depiction in which Cassandra literally rushes to Agamemnon and tries to protect him with her body as well as with the priestly garland that she has have me so intrigued indeed
Like yeah Agamemnon loved her that much the sources do seem to agree up to a certain point but it is Cassandra's POV that truly intrigues me because it truly means she saw something on Agamemnon or perhaps which is more accurate that she received that little kindness after that hell she went through and quite frankly he was the only known thing she had during her journey in the unknown so in one way her situation was so tragic but the way the sources present it also has something there
Also Ovid might have said a lot of things on Roman myths but he is an expert on emotional writing so the fact that he says that Agamemnon falls for her while he sees her torn and broken like that has something bittersweet to it ngl. Tragic for sure but bittersweet nonetheless.
I really love how you drew poor Cassandra! It reminds me I need to work on my fics with her both the Dying Lion fic and Motherless Child! For sure!
They’re so dear to me

controversial opinions: Agamemnon is a better dad than Odysseus would be
Oh boy that IS a hot topic hahaha 😆
Honestly I am not sure I agree 100% I kinda see them as equal but it definitely is interesting to consider and hard to be sure given how Odysseus never raised his own child hahaha
But to be fair sounds like Odysseus is the type to be more mischievous parent figure while Agamemnon strikes me as the stern type but tender. Certainly more protective.
Now Odysseus involving Telemachus to his revenge hahaha would Agamemnon do the same with Orestes for instance? Good question. I think not given how he treats his brother. Agamemnon would shield or try to keep Orestes away from such business for as much as possible. But then again the reasoning behind children would be different too. Not to mention Odysseus at that stage was still trying to develop the fatherhood inside him haha
I personally see them as equal but if protective mood was what determined their differences then yeah maybe Agamemnon would be more protective and shielding parent than Odysseus. Agamemnon seems to have more that dad energy that protects children while Odysseus strikes me as the parent wishing to involve kids to what is going on. Both methods gave good and bad sides of course.
Ironically both men come from different backgrounds and seem like they reflect that to their parenthood.
Agamemnon spent a rough childhood with a father figure that let's say the average child would do without. He experienced violence very early in life and tasted peace a bit later.
Odysseus spent a generally happy and positive childhood with a father figure that is involved and teaching him not only skills of king but a broader spectrum like planting and planishing etc but he was exposed to violence later and he worked his way through it with his mind rather than being prepared for it or his technical knowledge appeared useful at times of need.
And this seems to have the effect of the two parents have their own aspect of parenthood
Agamemnon wishes to protect and shield. He tries not to involve others to unpleasant situations as long as he can help it. He would want his children to be happy like he didn't have the chance to be
Odysseus saw violence and evil later in life so he believes that exposing children to potential unpleasantness can shield them from future surprises. He wants to teach them both good and bad so they will be prepared for the worst when the worst comes.
So yeah I think this would be the massive difference between them. Agamemnon would prevent his kids entering the kitchen and grab a knife so they won't hurt themselves, Odysseus would give them the knife and teach them how to use it so would be prepared for the worst case scenario when they would have to use it either as tool or as weapon.
At least this is how I see it.
holy shit you’re good at analysis
I do agree, it would definetly be reflective of their own experiences and it’s a difficult thing to say definitively because he never raises a child while we have at least four examples with Agamemnon.
And what’s good for one kid and situation isn’t always good for another. So “good parent” is a vague definition.
I was mostly thinking of fact we have examples of Agamemnon being a good parent and none of Odysseus (and if we include how they treat other peoples kids we have more evidence against Odysseus but that isn’t always reflective on their own parenting)
Hahahaha why thanks I appreciate it! Haha
Yes and even Agamemnon unfortunately didn't raise his children to adulthood either so we can tell from the examples of Iphigenia and maybe Electra at that point. Chrysothemis seems to be too young too at that stage so her own personality being affected by Agamemnon's absense and her mother's later abuse could be present there too. We have Iphigenia of course to how she reacts and how mature she can be even if she is arguably young herself and we know Agamemnon was a really good father to her by her own words.
I would partially disagree up to one point because we know how impactful Odysseus is. For instance Eurymachus mentions how tender Odysseus was with him; cutting the meat himself so that Eurymachus would have the meat in his little hand, while holding him on his knees and even have that mischievous aura by allowing the little kid drink some wine (which gives me vibes of dunno parents that give their kids a tiny taste of coffee on the coffee plate or allow them to dip their finger in the drink and have a taste so they will participate with the grown ups and feel satisfaction haha) We also know that Odysseus tried to protect his son even if that would mean his own humiliation and him going to a war he didn't want to. We also hear that he "ruled as a father" his people which basically seems that he has a natural paternal instinct especially when people seem to remember that positively If anything Odysseus's paternal nature seems to be apparent to other characters in the Odyssey so we can make some sort of hypothesis as to what kind of father material he could have been (albeit of course one is not mutually including the other of course)
