Light had begun rising over New York City, and the morning had also begun. Bells rang throughout the countryside of Ray's family home, where Peter had been staying for the summer too, after his dad told him to find another place to live. Ray's family saw Peter as another son to them, so it wasn't a huge deal for him to stay.

"What do you boys plan on doing? For college, exactly," Mrs. Stantz asked.

Peter looked down and then to Ray for help. Ray began talking for both of them, "Well, we finally plan on going to college, ma. Y'know, living in dorms too because we don't want to be a burden on you, not like Carl."

His mom lightly slapped his hand and told him not to speak ill of his brother, even in a joking manner, because that's still his sibling. Ray nodded and looked at Peter and began talking, "I got us signed up for Columbia University, Venkman! It's gonna be great."

Peter nodded back at him and asked, "Did you also pick out my classes also?"

Ray shrugged, "We missed that window, but they told me they could squeeze in some classes of our interests if I gave recommendations, so I did."

Peter sighed and nodded, "So, when do we start?"

"Tomorrow."

He hadn't realized that college started so soon; he thought it was at least another week! He decided to enjoy the last day of summer before college, as much as he could, at least. But not too long; it was already tomorrow.

The morning alarm had begun going off, waking Peter and Ray up quickly. Ray turned off the alarm and left his bedroom to shower. Peter, however, swung his feet over the bed and realized he hadn't packed for his dorm yet, so he began doing so while Ray showered. He sighed, remembering that he'd never stayed away from his home for so long. He never liked his dad, but it was still home. He decided to ignore those feelings and grab Ray's bags as well.

Ray had finally gotten out of the shower and began getting dressed properly for school. He noticed Peter was already dressed. "You don't want to shower before we go?" He asked.

"I showered last night, Ray. I think I'll be fine," Peter replied. As Ray got ready, Peter began putting the bags in the car and getting everything set up and ready so Ray wouldn't have to worry too much. It didn't take long before Ray was outside, ready to go. "You ready, Venkman? Big day today, we get to go to our classes, set up our dorms- Hey, I want you to have a head start when we get there. I'll set up our dorm, and you go to your first class."

"That works with me, though I would have preferred skipping all my classes to sleep," Peter retorted jokingly.

Ray giggled and patted Peter's shoulder as he started the car and began driving toward Columbia University. It didn't take long to settle in the parking lot, mainly because traffic wasn't terrible in the mornings- still bad, but not as bad compared to other times. Peter looked at Ray, who was unpacking the bags and heading to the dorms. "I'll be fine, Pete! You can go on to your first class- just go up to that lady in the middle and tell her your name, and she'll give you your schedule!"

He nodded, thanked Ray, and began walking towards the lady handing out schedules. He did as told, got his schedule, and it turned out his first class was women's studies. He smirked, pleased by this, and didn't hesitate to run over to the room it was hosted in. Of course, it didn't take him too long to find it, as it was just down the hallway from where he entered the school. He opened the room's door and noticed a bunch of seats were already filled, except for one; it was right next to some random guy. Peter didn't know if he should sit there or not, but he chose to sit down next to this stranger.

The stranger paid him no mind at all. Peter took slight offense to that and tried to make some conversation, "You new here? I am. Y'know, I heard this is one of the best colleges in New York City. But I think the best college is the kind you don't have to go to, am I right?" He laughed at his own joke.

The stranger still ignored Peter's blabbering and stayed focused on writing their schedule. He tried to get a look at the stranger's schedule, only for the professor to walk in abruptly.

"Good morning, everyone. As you all know, a new school year means introductions are needed on the first day. I'll start with myself: I am Dr. Wilson. I chose to teach this class because I am interested in educating the new generation more about women, or, if you are a girl in this class, more about how you may work. I'm gonna call out a random name, and I want you to introduce yourself." She reads her list and calls out, "Peter Venkman?"

Peter raised his hand slightly when his name was called, then nodded. He cleared his throat and began his introduction, "I'm Peter Venkman, everyone. I'm extremely interested in the inner workings of women, so I know how to get them to come home with me. Plus, I believe this class will help with social skills, right?" "Not with women," Dr. Wilson replies and looks for another name, "Egon Spengler?" The stranger next to Peter looked up from his notebook and raised his hand, put it back down, then went back into his notebook. "Mr. Spengler, your introduction, please?" She said. He looked at her and replied, "That won't be necessary. I do not plan on staying with this class long enough to introduce myself." "Quite frankly, I don't care. Introduce yourself to this class, please."

Egon scoffed and still refused. The professor was obviously pissed but moved on, calling on other people, but it was all a blur for Peter. All he could focus on was this mysterious stranger who's named Egon Spengler. He decided he was gonna get an introduction out of this guy even if he had to pull a few teeth out. The class ended after an hour or two; he wasn't counting, but he did start following that Spengler guy out.

Egon noticed Peter and stopped. "Can I help you?" He asked.

"You know, I think we got off on the wrong foot earlier, and I'd like us to talk about it," Peter started off. "Who are you??" He replied back, clearly confused. "We sat next to each other in that class!- Hey, I think you shouldn't leave it either; this could help your social skills, because look. We're talking."

Egon gave Peter a weird glare, "I do not need advice from a frat boy. Now, if you excuse me, I'm going to be late for my next class."

Peter tried to stop him but got shoved slightly by him. Ray noticed it and ran over immediately. "You're already making friends, Pete?"

"Not yet, but I'll make that guy my friend, even if he hates my guts for the rest of his life."

Next Day

Peter took his seat next to Egon once again and decided he was going to make this work no matter how hard it was. But for right now, he sat in silence and kept to himself until he noticed a book Egon was reading. It was a supernatural book Ray had been looking for everywhere around the library during study hall and after school.

"Hey, that book you have-" Peter tried to get out but was interrupted.

"I know what you are, and quite frankly, I am not interested in what remark you have to make about my scientific endeavors," Egon said defensively.

"Hey, I wasn't gonna bully you- you clearly have enough on your plate, I was just gonna point out that my best friend was looking for that book yesterday-" Peter got interrupted once again.

"Then he can wait his turn to read it."

"Hey, you're an ass. I like you a lot, man. But seriously, let's cut the shit. You know I'm not trying to bully you at all and-" He got choked up when Egon stood up, the man slightly towering over him.

"I told you that your friend could wait for this fine piece of scientific literature, but you take it as a chance to converse with me. So yes, let's cut the shit. I do not wish to be friends with the frat boy who has no interest in others but himself. And I know you truly have no interest in being friends with me, so leave me alone," Egon snarled slightly before sitting back down.

"What if I am interested in being friends with a geek?" Peter retorted.

He looked at Peter. "You aren't. I know you're kind."

"Ouch, you play a hard ball. But we're gonna be friends; I promise you that."

Egon snorted and shook his head, "I'm sure we'll be the bestest of friends."

"Don't knock it until you try it, man, I could change your life," Peter laughed slightly.

He shook his head again and just sighed, trying to catch up on reading after being interrupted. Peter just decided to keep to himself for a bit longer, letting this guy get used to him first before he springs anything on him. After class, Peter caught up with Ray and began talking to him.

"You won't believe it, I actually managed to hold a conversation with this guy. And guess what? He's into the supernatural like you!"

"Seriously? That's great! I have to meet him-" Ray got interrupted by Egon walking over.

"Peter, you said your friend would be interested in having this book, and I don't feel like being a jerk and turning it in. It still has two months on it. I hope that's enough time to finish reading it," Egon replied, handing the book to Peter, who handed it to Ray.
