This stupid exchange between friends has become a cultural icon.
This text thread brought us into a new age
I don't think dr who is getting cancelled but you have to admit generating hype for an announcement only to say "we're pulling the plug" would be kind of hilarious
[ID: an image showing three kids in the distance flinching away, labeled “random internet users just trying to be comedic,” while a child closer to the camera labeled “Apollo” holds a red dodgeball labeled “the gift of prophesy.” /end ID]
getting scambot messages from random accounts that clearly used to be normal active blogs is sad enough. you know that there used to be a real person on that blog until they were tricked into handing their password to the digital fae.
but it's an entirely new level of tragic when somebody you've actually spoken to gets turned into a bot account. it's like peeking at a zombie apocalypse through the window and realizing one of the shambling corpses was your friend.
and then the zombie catches sight of you, lurches up to your window, and shouts through the glass that they accidentally reported your account to tumblr and you'll be deactivated unless you click this link.
RIP to the blog that used to DM me to tell me they liked my new chapters. Their last known words spoken before being turned, 17 hours ago: "Ggs!" They were praising someone's deadlift.
the message they tried to get me with is probably the same message that got them, so for anybody who hasn't already been warned about the signs of a zombie account:
if you get something like this ↑ they're gonna follow up by instructing you to contact tumblr support on discord and give you contact info; or they're gonna link a website that looks sort of like tumblr support and say you have to email them; or any variety of "you must now contact tumblr, here is how you contact tumblr."
whatever they send you, it Does Not lead to tumblr. it leads to the master zombie that bit them and inducted them into the ranks of the undead, and will bite you the second they have your email and password. i might be confusing zombies and vampires. anyway,
it's easier to fall for these messages because the blog doesn't LOOK like a bot blog, because it ISN'T a bot blog. it's a normal person's blog that got accessed by a bot, meaning the blog's content CLEARLY looks like a real active user when you click on it. and yes—it might even be a blog you already know. sometimes bots like this go down a blog's DMs or reblogs and message people they've previously interacted with.
they got one of my treasured followers, and they can get you too. don't fall for their tricks. know the signs.
the losing dogs and i are engaging in insider trading

affirmations they will not kill me at work today. it is not in my job description to get killed. if they did kill me at work that would be weird and probably not worth it for them
I do think it's kind of funny how john green wrote a book about tuberculosis that brought a lot of renewed attention to the subject and he's since become the darling of the tb world, speaks at tb conferences, my dad and every other tb researcher I know is absolutely smitten with him, and they'll be like "we love this guy! have you heard of him??" and I have to be like well yes, I have. for other reasons

this is a best buy — a chest high labyrinth of brand displays and loss leaders stalked by unreliable salesteens
and this is a bass pro shop

so imagine the fundamentally bad ass experience if your gaming shit was sold by people who deadass put a whole lake in a store

"Doctor Who hasn't been cancelled. Only the Christmas special has been cancelled. The BBC is seeking a new production partner to make a new Doctor Who for them."
Babes, I don't know how to tell you this, but between the beginning of the Great Indefinite Hiatus of 1989 and the announcement of the 1996 TV Movie in 1995, the sentiment above is uncomfortably close to the line WE were fed.
For years, they told us that Doctor Who wasn't cancelled, but that it was instead "not commissioned for a new season at this time." They told us repeatedly between 1990-95 that if Doctor Who were to return, it would have to be as a co-production between the BBC and an outside entity.
There were a few interested parties during those years, but attempts to relaunch went into Development Hell for years.
We got one TV Movie that bombed in America and that British fandom regarded as "The American Abomination" for a decade. And the show went back into Limbo of Development Hell until 2003.
At present, the show is, unfortunately, in the title of RTD's debut Virgin New Adventure, "Damaged Goods," and with the current state of franchise fatigue affecting many genre properties and current unsettled economic and social conditions affecting entertainment productions, I would expect a wait of some duration before we see a revival, whether it be a direct continuation or full-on reboot.
I’m glad that OP:
1) Figured this out.
2) Shared so others can learn from their mistake.
This may be the best Pride merch I've seen from a major corporation.
Levi's said yes, actually. Assless chaps and a biker vest. Happy Pride.
And the assless chaps sold out on June 1.
They also specifically contacted members of the leather community, used them as models iirc, and donated $100k to Outright International. They talked the talk and walked the walk and put their money on it too. I don't really care that I can't afford and don't want this merch, I love to see my community getting the respect it deserves. Levi's said, "We make jeans which gays wear lots of jeans? Oh leather daddies? Let's call them."
I think Levi's donates to Outreach International every year too, as well as sponsoring pride events and other community support. They were offering Same Sex domestic partner benefits to employees in the 90s, and have been very public about their support for pro-lgbt legislation all through the 2000s.
So, you know, a giant corporation that walks the walk pretty consistently.
Genre media since the 1980s has become so painfully self-conscious.
tbh I think part of the appeal of anime to a lot of people is that it isn't full of this cringing embarrassment of the nature of what it is. It isn't constantly making fun of itself or apologizing for its existence, it's just straightforwardly doing the thing it's doing.

The whole "Elvis sighting" thing is hilarious because, like, the first documented career Elvis impersonators began working over twenty years before the guy even died. I wonder why a public figure who has a whole industry of people who look and sound like him would generate an unusual number of posthumous sightings? It Is A Mystery.
