not just in history and overlap but in terms of how they refer to themselves.

think of it this way. you're part of a community, you may or may not have a ton of microlabels people havent heard of. not everyone is going to remember the specifics especially if you haven't know them for long so you end up shortening the list down to something more digestible.

take me for instance:

i have elhers-danlos syndrome, but I don't expect everyone to know what that is especially if they're not neck-deep in the disabled community, so sometimes i find it easier to say i have cerberal palsy as not only was that one of my prior, temporary diagnosi while we were still trying to figure out what was going on but it's also a term people are much more familiar with.

i also have a similarly complex relationship with my sexuality. in terms of micolabels i've narrowed it down to lesbiflexible nebulasexual but god knows i'm not expecting anyone to know what that means so i'll just say i'm a biromantic lesbian to make it easier.

other than that i also find that due to our shared history of being basically shunned by normal society have made us more stubborn and punk-leaning. especially with the rise of cripple punk alongside queer punk.

i mean, we both have the shared experience of people not believing we are whatever we say we are (especially if you're a "high-functioning" neurodivergent as controversial as that label is on its own.) we also have a shared hatred towards being babied because of who we are (iirc trans people tend to experience this more alongside neurodivergent people but again, it covers all bases i think.)

long story short, if we were a venn diagram, we probably wouldn't be an exact circle but we're pretty damn close.

i could not for the life of me find one solid answer of what a kin is as i've heard both "its a character you have a strong emotional connection to" and "its a character you genuinely believe you might've been in a past life" so i only ended up using the comfort character one just to be safe.
