@mostie01 mentioned some ideas about Red Boy's six warriors in JTTW (Mist-in-the-Clouds, Clouds-in-the-Mist, Firefast, Windspeed, Hurley-Burley, and Burley-Hurley) and they, I, @draw-of-the-moon, and @unseelie-robynx got discussing-
“No way I’m not leaving him on a mountain! How do I know if he’s gonna eat properly and go to bed on time?”
One of the boys whined, his eyes getting big and shiny with tears. “…We were trying our best."
Red Boy growled, and Sun Wukong mindlessly adjusted his hold on his nephew, glad that Guanyin's seal seemed to be holding. It gave him a chance to look at the six teenagers who had rushed to rescue the child.
He would never say it within his nephew's earshot, but he was pissed at his former sworn brother. Sun Wukong understood that there were some demon customs he simply didn't understand, but leaving a small child alone on a mountain was ridiculous. Yes, Red Boy was strong enough to summon the Samadhi fire of all thing and clever enough to pick out his and Zhu Bajie's weak points quickly, but he was barely out of toddlerhood. He barely came to Wukong's knee!
It had been a snap decision to take Red Boy on the journey, but Wukong's conscience would never forgive him for leaving a small child alone.
Except, he hadn't been alone.
Red Boy's six warriors had tracked them down, a few miles away from the cave. As Wukong studied them, he had to come to a realization.
Fuck, what is it with demons and leaving their kids alone?
The oldest, Wukong was pretty sure he had heard them being called Firefast, looked old enough to pass as a human sixteen-year-old. The youngest set of twins, (Mist-in-the-Clouds and Clouds-in-the-Mist) barely looked old enough to pass as thirteen. There appeared to be two girls, two boys, and two who were like Peng, with two sets of twins, all holding weapons and armor.
Wukong, meeting Firefast's eye, returned his staff to his ear. He used his free hand to pluck a hair loose and summon a clone. Red jerked when he passed him to the clone, but the clone held firm. With his hands free, Wukong could cross his arms and stare the group down. "And, who," he said, looking at each of them. "Is making sure you're eating properly and going to bed on time?"
The minute he said it, all of them started shifting awkwardly, not looking at him in the face. Finally, one of them raised a finger. "...so like, this is about the baby, not about us so that question is invalid, and we don't have to answer it." They leaned back with a proud grin as if that fixed any questions Wukong had.
"You're also babies- you know what?" Wukong grabbed their wrist and began tugging them along. "You're all coming with us."
"Nope, you all need some responsible adults." Wukong paused to consider the pilgrims. "Well, more responsible than DBK and your parents."
"...okay." the teenagers said.
