They can be quite chatty, at times, and are excellent mimics of the calls of other bird species.

May 9, 2025 - Souza's Shrike (Lanius souzae) Found in parts of southern central Africa, these shrikes live in savannas. Often foraging in pairs, they feed on arthropods and possibly some vertebrates, carrying large prey back to a perch before eating it. They build cup-shaped nests from leaf stalks, twigs, grasses, spiderwebs, fine roots, tendrils, seedheads, and lichen in trees. Females lay clutches of one to four eggs and probably incubate them alone.
