what happened to the artstyle
i find this on Google, and only now did i realise that the style's are different. i prefer the bottom one.
For anyone who doesn't know, the Yugioh anime had a total of 34 different art directors across the entire run of the show. And they switched between these directors nearly every single episode. Studio Gallop didn't really bother making them keep the characters on model, so both the style and the amount of effort each particular art director was willing to put into the episode bleeds through a lot. That's why the show looks wildly inconsistent.

Rotating art directors isn't uncommon! You can google a lot of older anime and see other comparisons like these, just due to the nature of how labor intensive animation is/used to be. A lot of modern cartoons still do this, as well.
However, on THIS scale and frequency, with this lack of care for consistency? I don't believe it's very common, even for cheap productions. Yugioh is kind of a special case, which people either love or hate. Good art directors really stand out.. but not everyone is a good art director..
