I'm really trying hard to be a "It's everyone's first time learning something everyday" kind of guy but also if you don't know shit and you know you're, for whatever reason, a person who doesn't have context about something, why fucking talk. Like why are you talking. If you know you don't know what's being discussed why are you opining about it and getting confused when everyone is like, shut your empty headed mouth for the love of god? Are you ALSO learning for the first time that this is insufferable?? As though half the time these people aren't also insufferable pedants who'd blow a gasket if someone started talking about their loser hobbies wrong

makes me sad that most YouTube art videos are about "how to make your ocs interesting", "how to grow your account in social media", "how to not make mary sues" like what happened to just drawing for fun and sharing it- oh wait I forgot this is the result of lolcowing people for their technical art skills and or clout related things.

we are in an era where people openly and harshly judge people's creative output because of the normalization of having a "freak" of the week. it makes me sad cuz as artists we should be having fun, not treating social media like an art competition or forcing our art to be "perfect" and digestible.

another thing is the constant need to market yourself and assimilate into a squeaky clean brand via treating social media like full time job rather than hobby you put your art on and occasionally get paid for. it's not a moral failing but I swear it's another form of art being controlled and governed by capitalism.

When people talk about all art being political (hard agree) they always talk about the content, themes, etc present within the art itself. Which obviously I get and obviously is a huge part of it. Of course. But I’m personally always struck by the politics surrounding the more metatextual elements of the art; that is, stuff like access to the tools needed for the creation of the art. I mean the literal materials of which an artpiece is made. This is a low-hanging-fruit example but I’m reminded of that Disney adult who tried to claim art isn’t inherently political by being like “I just drew a stick figure on a napkin, is that political? 🤣🤣” & while I think there are multiple different angles from which one could criticize this blatantly pathetic argument, I remember being really struck by like… the flagrant “waste” of implicitly throwaway resources that many parts of the world just literally don’t have and/or that carry with them deeply fraught histories of capitalist labor exploitation and destruction of natural resources. Like. Napkins?? The apolitical canvas that is paper napkins?
