keke palmer deserves all the praise she's getting for nope she's wonderful but daniel is being overlooked for his subdued role and i want to make it clear he's sublime and one of the best actors working today. if tom hiddleston had to share a stage with him he'd explode. that man can fillet a microexpression and shoot it out of the air blind

Nope (2022) is such a brilliant movie in so many ways. It’s about the inherent evil of spectacle. It’s about Hollywood’s abuse of animals. It’s about stealing and erasing black history. It’s about how personification is ultimately a bad thing. It’s about trauma. It’s about the never ending cycle of abuse that comes from exploitation. It’s about predator and prey. It’s about looking up to the heavens in awe. It’s about averting your gaze lest you be punished. It’s about respecting animals. It’s about the way poc are treated in media. It’s about how far some people will go for money. It’s an alien movie but it’s a monster movie but it’s a western but it’s a si-fi and it’s the best movie I’ve ever seen. 

everyone dunked on Logan Paul’s twitter thread about Nope but i just want to add that one thing that particularly gets me is calling Kaluuya’s performance “mundane and vanilla” because- well, for one, imagine being at that level of toddler brain, where you think a character being quiet and standoffish is boring- but also because he’s a cowboy!!! Kaluuya is doing the quiet gruff character you see all the time in old cowboy movies!!! Nope is a sci-fi horror but it’s also unironically a modern-day western movie!!!!!!

Nope (2022) isn't asking us to question or condemn the concept of spectacle, it's asking us to question the things we choose to turn into spectacle. It's a condemnation of spectacles that exploit the suffering of living creatures, human and animal alike.
