Sirius: how do I know you two are worthy friends for Harry?
Ron: I broke the statute of secrecy and almost got my father fired just so I could get Harry out of a bad situation.
Sirius: That’ll be hard to top. Hermione?
Hermione: I set Snape on fire.
the front seat of the car is a type of confessional
i genuinely think that physically it’s easier to have hard conversations when you’re both facing forward, not having to look at each other. the catholic church knew this also
Conversation that Tumblr is not ready for:
A Vampire's fangs are also it's reproductive organs
I scrolled past that before realizing op was being literal and not just making some kind of weird joke
Oh please, "the penetration of the vampire's bite as metaphor for sexual penetration" is like, horny classic vampire symbolism 101 🙄 Taking this to the next level of "vampire bite as literal reproductive penetration" is a conversation Tumblr is thoroughly and uniquely prepared for and one that we will all severely regret very shortly
Oh, I’m ready to be a spectator for this conversation. I’m ready.
So, when a vampire doesn’t want to become a vaddy, they use a set of these, right?
MA'AM.
[something, something] … practicing safe sucks.
Okay, yeah, I'll reblog that
Tonks really could’ve bagged anyone but she chose the average looking, poor, chronically tired thirty-something man with english teacher vibes and you truly have to respect that

TAMZIN MERCHANT as KATHERINE HOWARD THE TUDORS | 'Bottom of The Pot' — S04E05
He's so unhinged I love him
The scariest part of becoming an adult is not making your own doctor’s appointment or having to learn how to do taxes. It’s that children will now see you as an adult and rely on you for help and protection.
A comedian once told a story where his son came into his bedroom at night and said he was scared because he heard a sound outside. The comedian said “Oh shit we better get an adult. Oh no. I’m the adult” and the first time this new role as expected protector of children really became clear for me was when my neighbor’s daughter knocked on my door and asked me to come help her and her friend get a dog back into the house.
Long story short my neighbor was running a small dog recuse for Eastern European street dogs and one got outside while the kids were home alone. They had managed to corner it in the front garden but had been told to never touch it for their own safety. As I followed the girl into the garden I heard her yell to her friend “I got an adult!” and I had the same feeling as the comedian “Oh no. I’m the adult” It turned out to be a midsized dog that could have hurt me but very unlikely to kill me and luckily it wasn’t aggressive at all and the situation was easily solved.
Since then I’ve been in several situations where children have looked to me for help or protection, including strangers. And I know people will want to rant about how parents should be more protective of their children but that’s not the point. When you’re an adult you’re a real shithead if you don’t help young children because they are completely reliant on adults for survival and sometimes that can be scary but you’re an adult now so at the very least you have to get them somewhere safe. One time a young boy approached be at a bus stop because a group of older teenagers had stolen his phone and were now following him. Groups of teenage boys can be fucking monsters and I was probably as scared as him but I took a photo of the group in the messenger app which meant the image was immediately sent to my friend, which made them back off when they realized they had no way of getting out of it. I ended up following the boy home. It was terrifying and I missed my bus but that’s the scariest part of being an adult we never consider as children.
one of my favorite things in shadow of Kyoshi is Rangi pretty much having temper tantrums.
I mean, that's a, what, 18 year-old? that's a baby, a toddler, it's fucking adorable.
Kyoshi: look, in my defense-
Rangi, glaring: you don’t have a defense, you’re an idiot!
Kyoshi: believe it or not, that was a really big part of my defense

You know what’s astonishing about Katara? She grew up in a world without bending.
It’s not surprising that Sokka calls her bending ‘magic water’ in the first episode. It might as well have been magic to them at that point; they had never seen it in practice until they meet Aang.
So not only did Katara not have any teachers, she didn’t have any kind of guidance, no visual aids, no idea of how bending is supposed to look or work. The first time she ever sees actual waterbending movements is when she steals the waterbending scroll from the pirates. The first time she meets another waterbender is when she reaches the North Pole, where within weeks she outmasters pretty much everyone and goes on to teach the Avatar.
Everything she does is so incredibly impressive, and yet I can’t help but feel the most proud of her when she catches a fish on that little boat.
Literally insane to think about. Hama was the last waterbender of the south to be captured, when she was a young woman, i believe in her late teens / early 20s. She is approximately the same age as Kanna. Katara’s parents were born into a tribe in which all the benders were already gone. Then they grew up and had her. Thats two generations raised with the stories of a lost tradition, “back when my mother was young”, “back when gran gran was young”. decades of learning how to live without, how to adapt and survive. Decades of bending, in this far off, remote land, becoming a distant memory. Everything Katara learned before the scroll might as well have been reinventing bending itself. Did she beg the elders for stories about their lost friends and family, trying to glean some insight into how they did what they did? The southern raiders ship is forever frozen in place. Did she look at it, and wonder how anyone could command water at that scale, while she struggled to lift a fish?
Sibling Talk BECOMING ELIZABETH 1.06 WHAT CANNOT BE CURED
look at me. listen to me. this is directed at americans for the record. the reason you think North American animals are boring is because you live here. there are so many cool and beautiful animals here. we have beavers. we have wolves. we have moose. we have sea lions. we have armadillos. we have mountain lions. we have alligators. we have foxes. we have bighorn sheep. we have manatees. we have bears. we have ocelots. we have BISON. and that’s not even touching on the birds! or the turtles! or the snakes! we have amazing beautiful and diverse wildlife right here and it deserves to be appreciated and protected
Possums are the only North American marsupial, they eat ticks and keep down cases of Lyme, and they can't carry rabies! We only have two native boa constrictors; the rubber boa and the rosy boa! Bison and the American Alligator are LITERAL MEGAFAUNA LEFT OVER FROM PREHISTORY!
When I was a teenager, I was hiking with my family on Cape Cod. I was not a willing participant to these hikes; I would've preferred to be back at our rental cabin with a book.
But my parents were birders, so hiking we did go.
And about a mile up the trail, a woman came rushing up to us, clutching her binoculars to her chest. "Come quickly," she said, with a British accent. "You have to see this!"
This is what birders are like. They are as excited about a life bird as any fan would be spotting their favorite celebrity. You have to see, you have to.
So my parents rushed off with her, and I plodded along behind them.
To find a cluster of Brits huddled in a bird blind, staring at..
A blue jay.
A goddamn blue jay.
And I was a teenager, but I knew better then to mouth off in front of my mom. So I nodded, and smiled, and bit my tongue, until an elderly man looked at me with tears in his eyes, and said, "Isn't it BEAUTIFUL?"
And I stopped. And looked at it. The way they were. As if it were new. And damned if they weren't right.
I think of that, to this day. That sometimes, you need to step back, and see the world as if it were new. Strange, and haunting, and beautiful, so beautiful.
Isn't it BEAUTIFUL?
Honestly, if you see an angel that’s all eyes and wings and wheels of fire, you should be worried. Like, not because it’s going to hurt you or anything, but because scripturally, angels invariably appear to ordinary people in human form. In general, they only show their inhuman true forms to prophets – which means if you’re seeing them like that, they come bearing responsibility.
I woke up today with the phrase “spooky scary seraphim” in my head today, looks like we’re on the same wavelength.
i made a new christmas carol

*After both of the girls' bathroom stalls were locked*
Me- "You know how I said I'd do anything for you?"
Students 5, 10, & 21- "Uh-huh."
Me- "I found my exception. I will absolutely not crawl on the bathroom floor for you to unlock those doors."
Student 10- Fair.
the scene in deathly hallows where harry and remus fight about whether harry should aim to kill is so great and it’s interesting to think about where sirius would have fallen in this argument, and imo it would’ve been somewhere in the middle. because this is not just a random death eater, harry tells remus that stan shunpike is likely imperius’d and remus is like “lmao whatever” and looks aghast at harry’s concern.
in gof sirius condemns the way barty crouch ran the aurors and respects moody for the fact that he didn’t “stoop to the level of the death eaters” and brought suspects in alive. which was obviously shaped by sirius’s experiences in azkaban and being imprisoned without a trial despite being innocent. so hypothetically, he would understand where harry’s coming from esp considering stan is innocent, and be less flippant and probably admire harry’s morals to an extent. that being said, sirius is incredibly practical, harry’s literal life was in immediate danger and harry’s life is sirius’s priority, and as we know, when push comes to shove sirius is plenty capable of murder and would’ve killed peter without hesitation.
anyways i love this crazy little gay morally grey family like. harry refuses to kill but he DOES try to crucio people whenever a loved one dies, and eventually succeeds in performing the cruciatus in deathly hallows. sirius seems to have pretty staunch ethics about killing suspects and death eaters but when pushed hard enough and when his loved ones are threatened, he’ll absolutely murder. remus is just ready to murder anyone, anywhere, always. they are insane i love them
