We Were Infinite - Chapter 111 PREVIEW
The tiny, packed muggle underground club is an absolute assassination on Remusâ heightened werewolf senses, especially with the full moon only a week away.
The band covering everything from The Sex Pistols to Slade to Foreigner is blasting through the amps in the much too small space and the air smelled so strongly of beer, liquor, sweat, cheap weed and cigarettes it was almost thick with it.
Sirius was stunning though.
He had somehow managed to find the perfect balance between looking effortlessly disheveled and devastatingly beautiful, black hair falling loose around his shoulders, a faded The Clash t-shirt that he had cut the sleeves and midriff off of, his eye liner was smudged and his cheeks were already flushed from the heat and the alcohol.
âŚThose leather trousers were practically painted on.
Everything else was merely background.
It was Benjiâs 20th birthday and Sirius, James and the girls had refused all attempts at trying to keep it âlow keyâ.
âWe never get to go out anymore without having to be on alert.â Marlene argued irritably.
The last time a group of them had tried to spend a night out just living their lives had been cut short before it had truly begun, when they had been stopped outside a popular Wizard night spot called The Velvet Castle by a stoic looking Wizard with a scroll of parchment who had asked them for their surnames before they would be permitted to enter.
Sirius nearly punched the man in the face when he had been allowed to pass only to have Marlene, Lily and Mary stopped immediately after.
It took Remus, James and Caradoc to pull him away, still shouting obscenities even as they shoved him into a booth at The Three Broomsticks nearly an hour later.
So the underground nightlife of muggle London would be their escape for the evening.
Here, dancing with Marlene and screaming the words to âAnarchy in the UKâ, Sirius looked wild and free and completely in his element.
He looked happier than he had in weeks.
It was worth the headache, in Remusâ opinion.
âNot really your scene, Lupin?â Caradocâs deep voice boomed beside him, his large hand clapping Remus on the shoulder. Remus laughed, returning the friendly smile and leaning back against the bar beside the blonde.
âWhat gave it away?â He chuckled, downing the rest of his cheap muggle beer. âHonestly, itâs not even that I donât like it, objectively. Itâs just, erâŚâ He licked his lips. It was still so surreal to talk about his lycanthropy so freely with anyone who wasnât Sirius, James, Peter or Lily. âIt can be a bit much, with all the noises and smells. Sort of a sensory nightmare.â
Caradoc, for his part, didnât seem fazed. As if Remus were describing a lactose allergy rather than having the senses of an apex predator.
âThat makes sense.â He said, taking a sip of his own beer. âDâyou need to step out a minute? I could go with you.â
Remus shook his head. âNah, Iâll live. Trust me, Iâve lived with Sirius and James long enough to be able to drown out all sorts of explosions. I appreciate it though.â
Caradocâs eyes followed Remusâ line of sight and he let out a sharp laugh. âViewâs too good, eh?â
Remus grinned. âCan you blame me?â He shook off the wolfâs momentary urge to assert himself as Siriusâ mate. People were allowed to look. Itâd be near impossible not to.
âWhat about you?â He said slyly, finally tearing his eyes away from the incredible beauty that was his boyfriend dancing with his arms over his head, cropped shirt riding dangerously high up. âWhereâs the birthday boy?â
