Okay, it took me a couple of days to gather my thoughts while dealing with my post-concert depression. But here are my final thoughts on Harry’s stay and residency in Mexico City.
From the moment he landed to the moment he left, I swear CDMX felt different. Special. Like we all knew we had a very special person amongst us.
For some reason, it felt completely surreal seeing him walk down the streets I’ve walked through so many times, especially since I’ve lived in Mexico City basically my whole life. Seeing him enjoying the food I’ve eaten for years, and taking in the views and places I’m so proud of as a Mexican woman—who also happens to be a tourism professional 😛—was comforting in a way I can’t really explain.
The tourism professional in me desperately wanted him to have the best time in the city I love most, and I really hope he did, despite the awkward moments and the unexpected, unwanted presence around him during his stay.
Seeing Harry in tourist mode always makes my heart melt, I’m not sure why. But he did give all of us mini heart attacks whenever he crossed the street 😭 He was even “scolded” by the official Metrobús account after we all saw him crossing right in front of a moving bus, though it’s very likely he didn’t even realize it 😂
Anyway, I also want to talk about Harry, the performer. He blew my mind every single night.
I had the absolute pleasure of attending not one, not two, but four out of the six concerts of this residency. And even though those were the two most chaotic weeks I’ve had in a long time, I would honestly do it all over again (minus the chaos if possible, of course).
Maybe it wasn’t the cleverest move from his team to schedule a stadium residency during CDMX's peak rainy season—July and August—at a venue with absolutely no roof 😭💀. But despite that, the man didn’t cancel a single show. He went out there and performed in the pouring rain, and we are so grateful for that.
He just set the bar incredibly high for any artist wanting to perform in Mexico City. We’ve had artists cancel out of nowhere and sometimes for the most ridiculous reasons, to be honest. But not Harry. Nope. I mean, he easily could have—who actually likes performing in the rain for hours?
But he didn’t cancel a single thing.
We showed up for him through heavy rainstorms and hail, and he did the exact same for us. I think that perfectly shows how much Mexican fans love him, and how much he loves his fans in return.
He gave us amazing looks, a very dramatic fall that he somehow turned into an iconic landing just to save face 😂, a 'SÍ MI AMOR' that made thousands of people blush, including myself 😭, and he had over 65,000 people singing “Cielito Lindo” on multiple nights. He gave us so much in the span of just two weeks; it was insane.
Btw, Mr. Des Styles dancing during the show, beer in hand like the icon he is? 👩🏻🍳💋
Every single night, Harry went out there and gave us his absolute best. And I really hope he felt that same energy from us.
I even had the opportunity to take my parents to one of the shows. I had extra tickets and I guess they were curious about all the hype 😂 and boy, did he deliver. Keep in mind, my parents are in their sixties and don’t speak a word of English. But despite the language barrier and having no idea what was happening most of the time, they had an amazing time and left as fans. They both agreed it’s blindingly obvious how much he loves making music and performing.
To me, this was a deeply special experience. I’ve been dealing with some shit for a while now; life has felt a bit weird, dull, and sometimes even scary. But after witnessing Harry’s magic over and over again, and being surrounded by such pure energy and love—even amongst strangers most of the time—I honestly feel more alive than I have in a very long time. There is a huge sign at the stadium entrance that says “Vivir es increíble” (Living is incredible), and walking in, I took a picture of it because I was so excited. But walking out, after experiencing that magic, I finally thought, “Yeah, it really is.”
This gorgeous man, without even knowing it, gave me back the spark I’ve been lacking for years. Just by doing what he loves. As simple as that.
So, I guess what I’m trying to say is that all the chaos, the wet feet, and almost catching a cold were entirely worth it. It was worth it to see him smile and enjoy my beautiful city despite everything. It was worth it to see him having the time of his life performing so we could have the time of ours.
Maybe next time he’ll do this under better weather conditions? 😅 But even if he doesn’t, we’ll all be there. Especially me.
I hope it doesn’t take him too long to come back to CDMX. I think he can officially consider this city his home now—if he wants to, of course. Because to us, he’s one of us. There’s a reason we chanted “Harry, hermano, ya eres mexicano” over and over again, though I’m still not sure if he fully got the translation 😂
These are pictures from a local news station 😭 we love him so much 💖
So, until next time, Harry. Thank you for leaving a piece of your heart in Mexico City, because you took a massive piece of ours with you. I truly hope you loved your time here as much as we loved having you, and that amongst all the incredible places you've been, CDMX holds a very special spot as one of your absolute favorites. I hope you made it home safely, but remember that whenever you miss the beautiful chaos, the rain, and the loudest crowds, you have a home waiting for you right here in Mexico City, and a Mexican and fellow February Aquarian friend here for you 🙋🏻♀️😛
