Something like this happened during the 1918 flu pandemic. Different cities issued different safety measures at different times. Obviously the cities that enforced social distancing sooner saw a flattened curve. However, once restrictions were eased because they saw the results of social distancing working most cities saw a second peak of flu deaths.
Right now we risk repeating the mistakes of the past. Itâs not enough to flatten the curve, we have to maintain these social distancing measures for longer than we think. Easing restrictions now could cost thousands of lives.
Social distancing isnât a new ideaâit saved thousands of American lives during the last great pandemic. Here's how it worked.
Weâre only finding out recently that a lot of animals have colors and patterns that we cannot see because theyâre outside of our visual range. It calls to attention how much of the world we canât experience because our senses are limited. When we shine UV lights on them, they glow pink or blue, but these are the colors that we CAN seeâŚ. they could be a bunch of different colors, which we SEE as all pink. Itâs also interesting to consider that most of these animals are not aware of having glowing patches on their bodiesâŚ. isnât it also possible that we have skin or hair patterns that were not aware of? . . (There is actually some research out there to support the idea that our own skin fluoresces as well and that there are gender differences in the pattern and glow.) Other places to see my posts: INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK / ETSY / KICKSTARTER  Â
Humans do have invisible stripes! Theyâre called Blaschkoâs Lines, formed as skin cells divide at the embryonic stage. Normally we canât see them at all, though certain skin conditions follow those same lines.Â
Apparently this is roughly what weâd look like, if our eyes could see in a different spectrum:
Dunno about you, but I want to use this in a story someday. Aliens can see our stripes and we canât! Magical transformations follow Blaschkoâs Lines! A subtle sign of lycanthropy is darker hair there! Wizards are bald with that cool spiral on their heads!
Speculative fiction is so much more fun when you can speculate about something strange but true.Â
THIS??? IS THE COOLEST???? SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY EVER??????????? AAAAAAAA THAT IS FLIPPING AWESOME!!!!!

In a weird place between wanting quarantine to end because my mental health is absolutely spiraling, and hoping quarantine continues because I canât imagine going back into functioning society again.
Iâm glad Iâm not the only one having this crisis.
Executive dysfunction is like that
This legitimately needs to be in future literature textbooks to capture the Covid-19 Pandemic.
This and Studio Ghibli sending a katana with a note that said âno cutsâ to Weinstein when he was handling the distribution of Princess Mononoke are now my two favorite movie anecdotes
i put a music player in front of tangy to try to get her to sing along and i love her so much
YOOOOO SHE FUCKING SLAYED IT

Ah but to be a waterdrop with googly eyes
Which side are you on?
^ this right the fuck here is what i really want people to get about fascism: its a death and more importantly a death-seeking ideology. its not about heritage its not about their civil liberties its not about whatever the fuck they throw up as a smokescreen. its about causing as much destruction as possible to people that arenât them

If you are an adult who identifies with the concept of Gifted Kid Syndrome and:
You have an unusually intense reaction to the concept of rejection, whether personal, professional, or academic
You have consistent trouble meeting deadlines
You have big dreams and ambitions that are completely achievable, but you consistently canât take steps toward achieving them and you donât know why
You procrastinate, like a lot
You like video games, like a lot
You switch seemingly at random between binge watching your favorite shows for absurd lengths of time or not being able to sit down and focus on them unless youâre doing something else at the same time
You cannot for the life of you keep your living area clean and organized
You struggle with substance dependencies, whether with alcohol, tobacco, weed, harder drugs, or even just caffeine
You struggle with texting/calling/emailing back, even for people you care about deeply and/or even for important deadlines
Please, please, please consider seeking out an ADHD evaluation.
Iâm not a psychiatrist or any kind of a medical professional, but personally I canât help but notice how many elements of what I was perceiving as personal failures before my diagnosis stem directly from my executive dysfunction. Meds and an adequate support system can make a world of difference!
Just some advice from your friendly neighborhood nonbinary-mom-friend blogger!
âŚthese are all seriously signs of ADHD?
Youâre kidding
Not even a little bit.

I said this before but people are really getting the wrong message about koalas. When we who like animal science say that koalas are wretched and horrible we mean that they are fascinating and wonderful. It is brilliant that a mammal evolved into this idiot teddy bear that eats poison all day and screams and falls asleep. Canât we talk about an animal being wretched and degenerate without everyone saying âso theyâre useless and can all die, then?â Thatâs not the point. An animal doesnât need to be smart, or nice, or even in any way pleasant to be in the presence of to be amazing and special and worthy of existence. Who would ever want the planet to stop having hairy tree goblins that just hang off a tree branch spewing diarrhea while a laughable pea brain rolls around behind their asshole baby face.
What is not to love about a thing so soft and so small yet so terribly terribly vulgar
creatures like the koala and the ocean sunfish are scientifically important because they help us understand just how badly a living organism can function and still survive
