just finished watching project hail mary and i have some. thoughts on stratt and grace.
like obviously stratt betrays grace; that's the apex of the whole dynamic, right? stratt is laser focused on one thing at the expense of all else; the mission is what matters.
she was never not going to make the call to send whoever was needed, no matter what, and grace is totally taken out at the knees by this when she makes his sacrifice for him when he balks. betrayal, nice and simple.
but isn't his surprise, in itself, a betrayal? surely, from stratt's perspective, she must be deeply disappointed that grace couldn't immediately see the obvious solution she had to choose.
they worked closely together, shared a unique rapport, and she thought he understood who she was and what drove her. but he proved her wrong by being genuinely surprised that she was going to force him to go, no matter what.
that had to hurt her. more than having to send him, even.
