feels like for too long i've been dismissive of the concepts of 'forbidden glyphs' and 'maddening knowledge'. past me was wrong as hell. that shit's real and it wants to bite you.
it's not that knowing about stuff drives you mad. it's that sometimes you learn a bit of this and a bit of that and a few years later while you're not looking all the bits shuffle themselves around and you turn back to find they've formed themselves into a shape that wants nothing more than to sink its teeth into your hypothalamus and bite down HARD
it's not like synthesis, where concepts join together to form something new. no new information or insight is being produced. you don't learn one last bit of information that 'joins the dots' and reveals a horrific whole. that would be too comprehensible.
its just that sometimes the knowledge of a thing is an entirely separate entity from the subject of the knowledge. you can learn all about a thing and be fine, but that knowledge becomes its own thing, independent, that now exists inside your head. with its own set of dangers and objectives.
and one day you'll wake up and it'll have your grey matter in its gullet.
