So there are obviously elements of the season that are worthy of criticism but there are also so many things going around that are just misrepresentations of what the show was clearly portraying.
Claudia isn’t in hell. That’s not what she said. Figuratively she is in hell, so the actors referring to it as that makes sense. But she did not describe hell herself. She described nothingness. She made reference to still existing on earth but being trapped (it would be hard to trip Armand on the stairs if she was in hell.) She is trapped between realms as ghosts always are. Purgatory in a sense, but it would feel like hell.
The show didn’t say Louis and Armand didn’t love each other.
Armand questioned whether he actually loved Louis, he was not making a definitive statement. He is perhaps the very last person whose words you should take at face value. I’d also be suspicious of Armand’s capacity to be honest to himself. In general and in that moment. He’s angry and hurt. Of course he’d attempt to downplay what he really felt. It can be both that he loved him and that he clings to people who will help him survive. That is love to him. It’s all he’s ever known. He’s also in a state of questioning his own existence. What he is, what made him what he is. He doesn’t know if it was love or if that is the only way he is able to love.
Louis also didn’t say he didn’t love Armand. He said he did not give him love in the form he needed. That itself is an admittance that he did love him, they just weren’t compatible in the ways that mattered. Lestat can still be the love of his life. You can love more than one person at different times.
I get people are upset but the show did make these things clear. It has been written this way across all three seasons. Pay attention to if they’re being descriptive, as Claudia was, or if they’re giving you insight into their mental state, like with Armand. Claudia lying about being stuck in nothingness does not add anything to the scene. Armand lying about loving Louis does. Never has this show given you to impression that you ought to take the word of these characters as objective. You have to use your intuition.
