hit the lights is about nicky not gabrielle, people think it's about her because of the line "by candlelight you used to teach me how to kiss" in the show lestat's first romantic and sexual experience was with nicky, in the books he had some experiences with girls from his village so it makes sense that line is about nicky. other lines too like "it breaks my heart seeing you losing touch with all the things that you used to care about" nicky is very cynical and never believed that he was a good musician and he ended up hating the violin that's what that line is about. i think the show deliberately doesn't assign each song to a certain character and let the viewer decide, we see daniel saying that why do i have to feel is about nicky but it's clearly about louis, the "i could sleep for hundred years" is about the impact of losing louis that he could bury himself just like he did after his first boyfriend died and gabrielle left him. listening to the album separately is a great way to engage with the show, lestat never gives straight answer he lies a lot but his true feelings come out in his music especially in episode 3 he dropped the performative vampire persona and he start singing about his experiences and how he felt about them. in episode 5 after seeing regina he wrote the song about claudia and poured his heart out, and even his bandmates told him it doesn't sound like us and he finally accept what he went through is real and it does indeed affect him, completely dropping that image as this fun sexual vampire who's not affected by anything that happened to him.
