Favourite character from the chimera ant arc?
i'm notoriously terrible with picking a favorite anything but i will do my very best:
if we're talking characters that were specifically introduced that arc, it would have to be komugi and meruem <3 for both them as individuals but also their relationship, and its ability to both parallel and contrast killua and gon's... everything. "gon you are my light" + meruem meaning "the light that illuminates all".... it speaks for itself. episode 135 never fails to reduce me to an absolute mess. first time i watched it i was crying to hard i couldn't breathe. sidenote : i've seen plenty of other shonen try to do the sympathetic villain and/or villain redemption arc...but honestly they rarely hit for me. IMO, a great deal of the reason Meruem works so well is togashi's commitment to portraying the moral ambiguity of the so-called 'good guys' (i'll be a netero-hater till the day i die), without leaning into tell-don't-show territory that becomes the pitfall of so many of these stories. it's like, sometimes a villain will corner the hero and be all "you're just like me! you're just one step away from becoming evil!" which is (often) demonstrably false, or the story alludes to the systemic inequality that created the conditions for this villain to exist, but fails to meaningful portray and address them. meruem is compelling for a great number of reasons--watching his growing sense of empathy warring with doctrine and biology, seeing how far he's come once he's able to find beauty in that which he once deemed weak, the ways in which his greater understanding of the world leads to a greater understanding of himself, and visa versa. but what really helps stick the landing for me is that the narrative is brave enough to MEANINGFULLY cast doubt on its heroes and the institution they serve. a lot of people reduce meruem's arc to "he becomes more human" which i think is missing some of the point. he embraces the beauty of humanity, yes, but is also forced to bear witness to its evils--and is eventually killed by the greatest symbol of human evil, the poor man's rose. but he dies happy, choosing beauty over violence, and our heroes victory is purposefully hollow, because THEY (netero, the hunter association, the institution) failed to make that same choice. virtue is not a granted fact of biology, it a choice we make. and so meruem's story is less of a redemption arc than a complete deconstruction of the status quo. and i LOVE it. i'm having a mess trying to articulate my point (ive never been concise a day in my life), but smarter people than me have already written great analyses of the chimera ant arc, i don't need to restate all that, you get the point. meruem, komugi, awesome đŤś
in regards to the supporting characters: i really do love the palace strike team-- morel, knuckle, and meleoron in particular. i also love colt and reina! (another tearjerker scene that always gets me is reina's reunion with her mother; in my heart there is an extended cut where colt reunites with his sister and mother as well.) oh, and shoutout kite! hope he comes back eventually i wanna see her shake ging by the shoulders and demand child support payments.
made this for me and two other Bisky fans out there
Gotta love how Bisky casually admitted to Killua and Gon that she initially was planning on ruining their friendship before changing her mind, only for these two idiots to mess up their friendship all on their own during the chimera ant arc.
Why have someone else ruin your friendship? It's your friendship, ruin it yourself - KilluGon probably.
confessing, every time i see this meme i think of bisky and killua in greed island

my chosen alluka ship is alluka and noko and if that seems completely bonkers trust me im well aware. but there's so little room for yuri in hxh and i have to do whatever i can to amend that đđ
just. we don't really know how aware noko is of gon, but based on what we know about ending d presumably to the same extent he is of her, at least, and i'd imagine she sees him somewhat how mito saw ging, as this distant back she can never reach. and there's just something interesting to me about pairing these two girls who, for one reason or another, have been so shut off from the outside world, and whose connection to that world is largely represented by these boys who are for so long so absent from their lives. okay. okay??? does anyone else see my vision???????
OH I'M SO HAPPY SOMEONE GETS ME, I THOUGHT OF THIS THINKING IT PROBABLY WOULDN'T BE A THING BUT YOUR POST HAS BLESSED MY EYES
The way everyone just stares at him đ
what if we explored each otherâs bodies [not sex] [i open your ribcage up and start messing around in that thang]
So was the implication here that an enraged Tserriednich brutally murdered some random person in response to Morena's betrayal? Or was the victim this "butler" he mentions--because as far as I know, Morena has no one that could be remotely described as butler among her ranks. But if that is the case, then why would her butler be on Tier 1 working with Tserriednich? I mean I understand from her side she could have sent him as a spy, but why would the prince accept that? He has plenty of capable staff on his own, and I'm sure he's aware that having a Heil-ly member around could be inviting trouble.
Tbh, my gut tells me it was just one of his staff that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's way more horrifying-- and emblematic of who Tserriednich is as a person-- that he would commit such a heinous act against someone totally innocent, for the sake of his own ego.
wanted to elaborate on my earlier point for the sake of clarity, because i think i didn't show my work, so-to-speak. i agree that gruesome acts like this are not some tserriednich would shy away from! and it very well be a run-of-the-mill serial killer moment. there are, however, few things that gave me pause: the first of which being the state of his room; overturned furniture, scattered debris, an overall messiness to the situation. tserriednich strikes me as the type to be a little bit more planned on how he gets his kicks-- have some meticulous set up in place and horrific vision for a so-called art piece. but the gore that's left behind is being hurriedly disposed of by servants rather than put on display, which seems uncharacteristic.
(it's giving temper tantrum)
and then there's the expression on his face. the last few times we've seen him do heinous shit like this he almost looked at peace after. or at the very least, completely unbothered:
("murder, what murder?")
versus:
(pure unfiltered fury)
imo, it's the difference between violence for the sake of pleasure and violence to relieve rage and inadequacy. we do know he's been prone to act out in similar ways before, what with tserriednich shooting a soldier who dared to talk back to him:
(his anger here is explicitly portrayed by otochin as insecure, even juvenile)
this ties in pretty well with the current heil-ly plot: if tserriednich's anger at morena is not just abt the betrayal itself, but also the fact that all this had been happening under his nose without his knowledge, he may feel like someone got one over on him (and a woman, no less!). and in his case, hurt pride equals hurt people. but obviously, all that is mostly speculation. i'm truly unsure about the details of the situation-- it very well may be just tserriednich doing tserriednich things! all i really know right now is that he killed someone rather gruesomely, and the timing suggests it has something to do with the information he just received about morena and the heil-ly. but only togashi knows what will happen next
