"If everything matters, then everything matters. If nothing matters, then everything matters. .... If nothing matters, then what we're doing down here matters because it's all there is."
I might be too high to be watching Weird Kids but this might do something profound for me.
To anyone who is having a bad day, I give you this hamster wearing a flower hat.
This post is now ten years old and still circulating. It has outlived countless generations of hamsters and the entire Trump administration, and people still pass it around because this one photographer a decade ago decided to put a little goodness into the world, and it makes me so happy
Well, it’s finally finished. It was a genuinely satisfying project. I present you Ankh Morpork in the guise of Google Maps.

Friend was diagnosed with Cancer again. And while it's a less aggressive version, cancer is cancer.
So, I'm making him and his spouse snuggle quilts. These are the first few blocks I worked on yesterday... I'm really loving how they are turning out. Stash-busting through all my scraps to create this, and in trusting the process, all of them make me happy.
Bahaha. This was a journey, but this end statement was perfect.
I honestly think Gen-Z and younger simply does not understand how recent widespread smartphone adoption is.
I am not that old, and I didn't have a smartphone until probably late high school. For most of my life, many if not most people were not walking around with a magic internet machine in their pocket that they pulled out and used constantly for everything.
reblog if you remember having to ration your text messages and accidentally opening the internet on your phone was the end of the world
Didn't have computers in school until my sophomore year - they were a donation from the Apple corporation - Apple IIs.
Cell phones weren't a thing even in college for most of us. My roommate had a first generation IBM with Prodigy as their dial-up internet connection. My college bestie was still working on a computer requiring a 5¼ boot drive disk. That is - the computer didn't work until you put the boot disk in... Then you put in the OTHER 5¼ disk to save your document work. That's all it did. It allowed you to write documents.
Cell phones were available when I was in Jr high (1986), but they were huge things - attached to a battery the size of a standard kleenex box.
I didn't get a cell phone until 2004 - it was a Nokia "candy bar" phone. You had to click through the keys to get words, had one game (snake), couldn't access anything but news headlines, and most plans had a 25 text message/month limit, before you were charged 25¢/text...
Life now is incredible for cell phone users...
reblog if the first musical you listened to was not Hamilton
My first musical was Hello Dolly. Yes, I'm that old. No I won't explain.
happy juneteenth but dont forget that prisoners are legally allowed to be subject to slave labor and also black people are disproportionately arrested and subjected to that legality. happy juneteenth but slavery still lives in america. america is still dependant on slave labor.
I got this book originally in 2020, because I needed to understand better what was happening in America. I was raised in a household that constantly told me "incarcerated individuals should work as a way to be useful to a society they betrayed".
That's not what was happening. Not at all. Yet until I moved out, and started meeting people, talking with them about their experiences, and de-codong what I was raised with vs reality, I simply accepted my mother's statement as true.
If you haven't started down the path of discovering America's consistent doubling down on racism, classism, and the splitting up of citizens into an "us vs them" mentality, designed purposely to remove all opportunity to rise up against a corrupt and unjust government, this is the book to read.
This book is the first to read. There are others, including ones about Redlining, the histories of indigenous people in America, and the experiences of AAPI in our country's expansion into the west. If you're white, and you're still clinging to what school taught you about America, it's going to be uncomfortable. It should be.
History isn't comfortable. It's not always pretty. The books that are deemed "acceptable" and "appropriate" for school don't include what actually happened, and they leave you with a warm, fuzzy feeling about how our country was created.
Be curious, be intentional, and be honest with yourself about the past. Don't let it keep repeating. Learn something, read a book and question what's being taught.

As someone who was alive when Bob Ross (and William Alexander before him — that’s where the approach is from) was on PBS, I can 100% testify that you can paint along with him.
You may need to learn how to set up your paints and such… but this is what people did, live, while the show aired. That’s what the show was for. I had family members create lovely works of art they enjoyed, which I still have on my walls, because William Alexander and Bob Ross both said:
SCREW METICULOUS CLASSICAL ART PRACTICES — JUST GRAB A PALETTE KNIFE AND BIG OLD BRUSH AND PAINT!
They freed a whole generation of people who were taught to paint detail and realism and exact representation of reality — people who largely gave up this kind of thing because it got tedious.
I watched the joy of family members as they rediscovered art as a messy fun spontaneous half hour activity.
Give it a try.

A 6th-level Disintegrate spell... that does 75 damage on average. Bolaire, you go for the Phantasmal Force. It's batted away. Termina moves around, hits you with a Disintegrate, does not hit you.
Campaign 4, Episode 30 - Here in the Dark
Taliesin Jaffe, the mother fucking eldritch God, strikes again.
Today I get stabbed in the neck. Again.
For context, this all started about 7 years ago, when my back started feeling like the right side of my spine (between the spine and shoulder blade) was on fire at times, down to my midback.
As a large-breasticled lady, I just figured I'd needed better bras, so I got some. Didn't help, figured it was because I was 45, and didn't do anything else about it.
Until I started getting referral pain across my shoulder blade and under it, up into my jaw, and down the back of my right arm. I was (naturally) concerned, so went to see my Dr, who (obviously) said "not a heart attack, you just need to lose weight. Oh, and do a yoga and eat a kale."
I did those things, referral pain continued. Learned to ignore it... For a while. Until I had to go to urgent care 1 year ago because the pain in my shoulder was excruciating, and I couldn't finish work (reaching for my mouse was hands down horrible).
They x-rayed, and did an MRI and said "eh, it's probably just a partially torn cuff, have some PT.". I did the PT, and did 6 Months of gym as well.
No change.
Was referred to pain management. Found out *there* that I had narrowing of my foremanal channel in my C4-T1, and bone spurs on my C5 and C6, which had been aggravating the entire nerve branch coming out of the spine there.
They'd been there this whole time, but no one had mentioned it to me.
I did 3 cortisone shots in 1.5 months. No changes, no improvement.
Was referred to a neurosurgeon el3 months ago. Finally. They wanted another MRI to see if it's gotten worse.
Insurance said "no, we allow for 1 MRI once a year for a single body part, unless the patient has officially established care with you, which requires 3 visits - or - there has been a significant change in the body part in question.".
I was sent back to pain management. They referred me to physical therapy while we wait for the 1 year to be up in July, and offer me a medial nerve branch block, to see if that helps any. I'm warned it probably won't, but that it's probably going to be the next step insurance would demand prior to approving neurosurgery.
And now you're all caught up.
