I think we have a solid factual basis and enough supporting evidence that (provided that the conservatives lose the election) we may have a case to have Canada alter or withdraw from its safe third country agreement with the United States and begin to accept trans refugees from there.
But this is not going to happen if we don't demand it and present information that should lead to an update to the law.
So in addition to voting in the next election, please try to get in contact with local immigrant and LGBTQ advocacy groups and organize to bring this information before those who could act on it, including phone calls to members of parliament.
It is time to take action. We can't just assume someone else will do it in our place.
As a refugee myself, I am already gathering allies and information to coordinate actions from the shadows. I am hopeful that this can be done.
Among the organizations already calling to update or remove the STCA we have Amnesty International, the Canadian Council for Refugees, and Rainbow Railroad. Try to contact them on this issue.
Amnesty has a ready-made template you can use to call on the government to end this agreement.
There is a movement for this, but it needs energy and support.
Note that while I intend to fight transphobia regardless of how the election turns out, the outcome there does matter not just for the purposes of ending the STCA but also for keeping Canadian trans people safe as well.
Pollievre was a Trump wannabe until that became unpopular, but his turn from this is completely insincere. Even now he goes on Trump-style rants about "wokeness" and we have already seen his party try to enact anti-trans legislation in Alberta. This is a worry shared by some of the people I contacted.
We cannot repeat the mistakes of the United States on this and still be a relatively safe haven for trans people. The less power transphobes have the better.
Vote and try to convince everyone close to you to do so as well. We have the opportunity to make our most aggressive enemies more impotent and we should take it. It will make everything else easier.
Some of the people I contacted emphasized this as well. If the conservatives win the election Canada will become less safe as well. It could start going down the same path as the US and UK with regards to trans rights. We can't be complacent or convince ourselves it can't happen here as well.

There's this interesting phenomenon where when you're a child, or some other vulnerable minority dependent on a job for shelter, you are actually under duress almost constantly. You can't say "I don't want to work today," you cannot say "I don't want to do the dishes, actually," you cannot choose not to participate. In a lot of cases, the punishment is explicit. Your parents might yell at you. Your boss might fire you. But in other cases, it's implicit. The mood will sour. You lose leeway. People get mad at you. And that creates a really shitty environment where you're constantly being coerced to do things!
And here's the kicker; you're not allowed to acknowledge that. You cannot acknowledge that you are being coerced, you cannot acknowledge that your free will is not being respected, because that's punished too. Your boss insists that you act excited. Your parents punish you for acting surly. You are forced to fake enthusiastic consent, constantly. It's a fucking nightmare. Your hand is being forced, you do not have the option to say "no," and if you ever, for a second, try to acknowledge that, everyone acts like you're the aggressor.

Reminder that christian parents explicitly teach each other to be like this in their demands to their children. They say that if you obey without also performing happiness for them you're actually still disobedient and wrong and need to be "trained" to smile while following their orders.

thinking about how when you experience a lot of shame in your formative years (indirectly, directly, as abuse or just as an extant part of your environment) it becomes really difficult to be perceived by other people in general. the mere concept of someone watching me do anything, whether it's a totally normal activity or something unfamiliar of embarrassing, whether I'm working in an excel spreadsheet or being horny on main, it just makes my skin crawl and my brain turn to static because I cannot convince myself that it's okay to be seen and experienced. because to exist is to be ashamed and embarrassed of myself, whether I'm failing at something or not, because my instinctive reaction to anyone commenting on ANYTHING I'm doing is to crawl into a hole and die. it's such a bizarre and dehumanizing feeling to just not be able to exist without constantly thinking about how you are being Perceived. ceaseless watcher give me a god damn break.

Help me pay first months rent and move-in-fee
Hello everyone, My name is Tiffany I'm trans, autistic, disabled and cant work with chronic fatigue syndrome, executive dysfunction and I have avoidant personality disorder/high anxiety and don't have a social support network that is supportive of me being transgender I've never been employed and am basically unemployable I'm in the process of getting benefits like ssi, snap, medicare, and medicaid but in order to receive rental assistance I need to be able to pay first months rent and a move in fee but I'm practically unable to because of how little I'm getting right now and how fast the money goes due to things like food, my phone bill, some goes to my uncle's rent and bills, and I would just want some support temporarily until all these government assistance processes are completed witch would take long because first I need to find one available and the cheapest apartments I can apply for in my area are $1800 to $2300 plus security deposit then it would need to be inspected for approval and then hopefully I can finally live on my own planning to hopefully live on all that but its taking longer then expected and i would love to move out sooner then later so I can begin to live the way I want to live away from bigoted and abusive members of my family

a pharmacy i used sold my information and some company sent me a letter with my name on the envelope but I haven't had it legally changed yet because I'm still closeted and pre transition because I still have to live with family members until I can receive rental assistance and they are mostly all transphobes and my uncle who I have to stay with collects the mail and saw it and gave it to me with a bad attitude and hasn't spoken to me in days I don't know what he is thinking about it but this has given me a ton of anxiety and feeling emotionally unsafe please help me get out of here!

its been 17 days since i posted my crowd funding post and so far only one person donated $20 anonymously (thank you to that person) but I'm not getting what i need in time (apartments get taken fast) and i don't know where i should turn for help for donations and signal boosting
I already added $400 to my ko-fi starting amount and I could probably pay for the initial rent with next months' money but i would still need help with the deposit and application fees

In the latest meeting with Nayib Bukele, where they confirmed they will not be releasing the guy they imprisoned because of an administrative error, Trump once again floated the idea of also selling US citizens into slavery in El Salvador.
He said he wants to "deport" as many people as possible, and has already shown he considers things like Tesla vandalism and anti-genocide protests to be a good enough reason to do it.
fuck i don't wanna post about politics but its scaring the absolute shit out of me the story of the guy from Maryland with no criminal record who was accidentally sent to an El Salvador mega-prison where inmates are beaten, tortured, and dont have proper hygiene or medical care
like this guy had NO TRIAL OR ANYTHING they just fucking kidnapped him off the street and sent him to a foreign torture prison
El salvador has tens of thousands of people in prison and the leader brags about how horrible conditions are in there. Hundreds of people have died in El Salvador prisons according to the second link up there.
And what's more, the guy originally ran away from Venezuela because there were gangs trying to kill him.
And it sounds like there's other people been sent there too and the republicans are defending sending people to foreign torture prison WITHOUT TRIAL??? And Kristi "puppy-shooter" Noem visited the megaprison to film and show off the inmates' dehumanization and misery

in the first few pages you'll see they have a "guide" on how to recognize gang members and it's total bullshit. They have a gallery of tattoos that are supposedly "gang tattoos" but they legitimately just regular tattoos that anyone could have.
and they're like "members of the gang are usually young men 18-25 who wear clothes associated with sports teams"
i read article about it and some dipshit had commented "don't you get it? We DON'T CARE if illegals get sent to prison or what happens to them. They're rapist murdering terrorist thugs. We DON'T CARE. We DON'T CARE."
That was when I felt the most horrible sense of dread. The display of cruelty and dominance in Kristi Noem's videos, the luxuriation in humiliating and dehumanizing another person.
It reminded me of when my mom showed me a clip from Tucker Carlson speaking, saying "Watch this. I know this sounds crazy, but I almost think he has some sort of demon in him." Tucker Carlson was describing a metaphor of Trump as an angry father coming home to his disobedient teenage daughter to beat her. "This is going to hurt you way more than it hurts me!" Tucker Carlson said in the clip, with pure satisfaction and glee. He was experiencing such gratification by this fantasy of humiliating, dominating, and causing pain to someone else, and this fantasy was his political ideal. It really was just like looking a demon square in the face.
A political ideal of domination. Of inflicting pain. Of punishing and hurting and crushing. A politics that craves to see other people suffering and humiliated and treated as lower than shit. And I think the pleasure they take in that feels to them sort of golden, like justice.
We can't let this thing live in us.
Like I keep thinking of that quote that went around a couple times that talked about the author hearing the statement "Punishment is reinforcing to the punisher." and instantly feeling this pit of dread open in their stomach with its truth and how dark and horrible that truth was. I wish I could find it again because it had the same effect on me.
To me, the most chilling thing about this whole thing has been that a federal judge ordered the man brought back to the US and the administration's response was "as a judge you don't have jurisdiction over El Salvador so it's not our problem". The Supreme Court just ruled within the last hour or so that this is bullshit and they do have to get him back, but it remains to be seen what, if anything, the administration is going to do to comply with this.
Also! If they can get away with accidentally sending someone legally allowed to be in the US to El Salvador, they can "accidentally" send anyone to El Salvador! They can send protestors, they can send LGBT people, they can send someone who gets a little snippy with their city council rep complaining about an ordinance!

I dont know how much longer I can live in this situation before I have a similar episode that got me kicked out in the first place and got me sent to this place Im really feeling like im losing it and cant take it anymore I dont know whats going to happen
