ah, right. not empathizing with an abuser is "failing an empathy test". yea, no that makes sense.

yea, sure, pomni is the most empathetic. not ragatha. the one who instantly tries to make pomni feel better when she joins the circus and has a panic attack. the one who tried to comfort jax after ribbit abstracted. the one who wants to do as much as she can for everyone else, even if it winds up with her getting hurt. why would it be ragatha.

pomni clearly cares about her friends that jax hurts. why else would she continue to let jax harass and abuse them. pomni, the one who told ragatha to be mean and then gotupset when ragatha was even slightly mean. the one who practically shuns ragatha because she's trying to be nice. ah yes, how did i not see that it was pomni who was the most empathetic all along

It makes sense to me that Pomni is considered the most empathetic because she has these one-on-one interactions with every other circus member and puts in an effort to understand them as people. Most of them even reciprocate to varying degrees, with Ragatha fretting over Pomni's well-being since her arrival, Kinger comforting her in the darkness while she was in distress, and Gangle and Zooble being relatively cordial with her throughout the series.

The problem isn't that you like TADC. You are allowed to like the show.

The problem is that Gooseworx is racist (and misogynistic). And you need to not be okay with that.

You are allowed to like the show, but you need to stick up for Black TADC fans and TADC fans of color that are hurt by the racism of its creator. You need to look at the show critically and listen to black people when they point out racism. Because Gooseworx racism is also bleeding into her writing! TADC has many racist tropes and you need to call it out for it.

And if you don't or can't enjoy something that was created by a racist, that's great! That's actually a really good boundary to have. I also do not want to support art created by racists.

But the solution to not-supporting-racists isn't to pretend like creators aren't racist. If you are supporting TADC while pretending Gooseworx isn't racist, because you don't want to support racists and it makes you feel better to pretend she isn't, you are being racist too.

And it's even worse when you tell Black TADC fans that they aren't allowed to be upset at Gooseworx's racism. Or when you tell them the racism, that they are affected by and you are not, didn't actually happen or "wasn't that bad".

You are allowed to like the show, but please be mindful about it. Be critical. Support Black fanartists of the show and listen to Black fans, because many feel let down and they are allowed to feel that way. Actually you should probably feel let down too!

You are allowed to be upset that this show you like was made by someone who is racist. You are allowed be upset that the merch of your favourite characters you bought has given money to a racist. You are allowed to be upset that your favourite character is a racist stereotype or enforces racist stereotypes. Do keep in mind that your grieve still comes from a place of white privilege, as you never were affected by the racism. That doesn't mean you shouldn't be mad about it, though.

You are allowed to like the show. That isn't the problem. Just make sure you aren't being racist and make sure that you are vocal about not supporting racism.
