Now that I've finally put up some instructions for the Traveling Stitch/False Decrease, maybe I can also post about some of the things I've been doing with it.
One category I've been exploring is lace, because I always seem to revert to lace. Knitted lace often has lines of decreases, which distort the vertical columns of stitches into emphasized diagonals. Here is a small swatch of a lace diamond pattern, fairly bog-standard except for the cable crosses at the points of the diamonds. The top half of each diamond shape is framed by its decrease lines, while the bottom half grows vertically out of the YO increases.
By using some False Decreases, it's possible to add diagonal framing lines to the lower edges of the diamonds as well. Now they look more symmetrical, and have a nice kind of crispy-edges effect.
Here are charts for both stitch patterns:
They are identical except for the False Decreases. The outlined diamonds end up looking a bit smaller, because the area of stockinette stitch gets more covered up by the diagonals.
blue sunset on Mars is a real phenomenon caused by the way Martian dust scatters sunlight.
Unlike Earth, where sunsets are red and orange due to the scattering of shorter blue wavelengths by our atmosphere, Mars has an extremely fine dust that scatters blue light more efficiently near the Sun.
So during sunset on Mars, the sky turns reddish-brown while the area around the Sun glows a soft blue. It’s the opposite of what we experience on Earth.

I've got some yarns posted on my ko-fi! Hand dyed and otherwise, multicolored and solid, fingering to worsted weight, natural and otherwise. I'm really proud of the range of beauty.
I'm hoping to post new items to my shop on a biweekly basis, so if nothing catches your fancy this week, stay tuned!

We should fix this and start saying "stupible"
alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?
under 18, AI is a net positive
under 18, AI is a net negative
18-29, AI is a net positive
18-29, AI is a net negative
30-45, AI is a net positive
30-45, AI is a net negative
46-60, AI is a net positive
46-60, AI is a net negative
over 60, AI is a net postive
over 60, AI is a net negative
Question 2/3
How often do you visit or interact with museums/archives (whether in person or online)?
Frequently (multiple times per month)
Often (multiple times per year)
Occasionally (a couple times per year)
Rarely (once every couple of years)
Never :(
Question 3/3
If you saw a museum was using AI in exhibits, marketing, research, etc., would you be more or less inclined to visit that museum?
under 18, more inclined
under 18, less inclined
18-29, more inclined
18-29, less inclined
30-45, more inclined
30-45, less inclined
46-60, more inclined
46-60, less inclined
over 60, more inclined
over 60, less inclined
Thank you for helping with this data collection. Please rb for as big a sample as possible!

dystopia
I think what older generations don't understand is that Zillenials and below are the first generations that didn't choose the smart phone as consumers. They don't have the same relationship with it. They didn't shape its development. Zillenials kind of did, but also their parents bought it for them. For older generations the smartphone is about convenience, progress, and possibility. They accepted its drawbacks for its advantages. For Gen Z, the technological capacity of the phone is a given, with no glamor or sparkle to it, and the societal demands of the phone are their chains from birth. "But you're young! You're supposed to love Phone!" All the advertisers cry.
But just because you can't truly concieve a world without Phone doesn't stop you from resenting Phone. I don't think that anyone from Gen Z actually wants to abolish Phone, but they absolutely want to abolish the chains of the phone. And they are right to say it, too.

The creature
made this into a gif bc i liked it so much. shark Denied
well this makes perfect sense regarding Shark psychology. They very clearly do not see humans as prey and when they see humans or their contraptions (like cages), are curious more than anything else. So this shark sees a cage and is like "Oh, human thing, will poke nose in." Then the human extends their arm and pushes shark snout away, something no seal or other prey does. So shark goes "Ah, I see. Human do not appreciate. Will go somewhere else. Farewell."
