βItβs cold,β Hawke complains in a passable imitation of Fenris. βWhy would anyone want to live in this?β
Anders quirks a grin. βHeβs not entirely wrong, you know,β he points out.
Hawke nods. βIβd swear I can see you turning blue some days.β
βYes, well,β says Anders, βyou know where itβs warm? Tevinter. I think weβll both take the Kirkwall winters, thank you.β
Hawke says, βAt least this way you can pretend the city is clean.β
βPerhaps you can,β says Anders, but heβs still smiling. βShould we check on him? He might have frozen to death.β
A raised eyebrow. βIs that concern I hear in your voice?β
βIt is,β says Anders. βIf I let him die, heβll haunt me just to blame my blood magic.β
Hawke smirks, then shivers. βWell, would you mind using a little of that blood magic to warm up this damn place? Call up a Rage demon or two.β
βIβll get Justice on it,β says Anders. βWill anyone even notice a demon solstice party in Kirkwall?β
Hawke shrugs. βWe can invite Meredith,β he says. βBribe a Rage to spend some private time with her.β
Anders says, βBribe Fenris. Iβll bet he could really get under her skin.β
Hawke snorts. βBet sheβs got a special place in her heart for him.β
Anders laughs, just a little, but it sends a faint sting through Hawkeβs chest. Anders doesnβt laugh as often as he used to these days.
Suddenly, and for no reason he can name, heβs compelled to turn away from the door, take Andersβ face in both hands, and kiss him. Cold fingers warm themselves on flushed cheeks; cold noses brush; Anders makes a soft sound, half pleasure and half protest, and when they part, Hawke stays where he is, feeling Andersβ breath warm against his skin.
βCome on,β says Anders, taking one of Hawkeβs hands in his own. βWe have a party to plan.β
