Columbus Day Indigenous Peoples Day 2018 will be recognized on 8 October with an event hosted by K-State’s Indigenous Alliance. The keynote speakers will be live-streamed the day of the event for those who can’t make it in person. You can learn more about this event by viewing their flier or heading straight to their website: www.k-state.edu/indigenous-alliance
The Burrow will be participating in the fall Farmer’s Market on Wednesday, 26 September and again on 31 October. The market will be available from 11-1 on both dates. We’ll be selling handmade crafts. More discussion about our participation will be held during the next meeting.
We’re planning to host a Haunted Pond (name pending), a Halloween-themed version of the traditional duck pond, sometime in October. At the moment we’re planning to let participants pick a pumpkin which will be marked so the Burrow member working the booth can identify a prize level. We anticipate all who participate will earn some sort of prize. We discussed the potential of using the Haunted Pond as our activity for the children’s carnival (October 11, 6 pm) during K-State’s Homecoming week.
K-State’s Homecoming week is October 7-13. As of the most recent meeting, we only have plans to take part in the children’s carnival. We are, however, open to participating in more of the Homecoming events as we have members available.
Officer elections will be held on 22 September during the meeting. Chapter t-shirts will also be available. Looking to the future, the October meetings are planned for October 6 and 20.

Libraries exist for the public. Amazon exists to maximize profits.
Libraries are important. Bookstores and online stores cannot replace them. Tell us what you love about your local library!
To protest the white supremacy flyers that were hung up around campus last night, we hit the sidewalks to cover the campus with love.
COPY, PASTE, SHARE - TEXAS NEEDS YOUR HELP
Entire state National Guard has been mobilized in Texas. This is how you can help. I can’t imagine anyone in Houston or affected areas being on tumblr during this, but please spread this around.
IF YOUR HOUSE IS TAKING ON WATER:
Turn off power via the breaker box. Don’t let the water reach the power outlets before you do this. If the water has already reached the power outlets, stay out of the water on your way to the breaker box - you can be electrocuted.
Move to higher ground. DO NOT GO INTO THE ATTIC, water can fill the attic and drown you. Grab a flash light and go to the roof instead.
ONLY IF YOUR LIFE IS IN IMMEDIATE DANGER should you call 911. Because the emergency line is so swamped right now, you will be put in a queue. STAY ON THE LINE so you are not removed from the queue.
At this point, you have a better chance of being rescued by people passing on boats than first responders because of how swamped the emergency line is. Use any kind of lights you have and start flashing them from the roof.
