⁂ Gossip Girl (2007-2012) — s.1e.04 | Bad News Blair⠀⠀⠀
it’s never a normal temperature anymore it’s always some fucking bullshit
I need you young people to know it was almost never this hot when I was a child. Millennials and Gen Xers are all nostalgic and excited about summer because it was about ten to twenty degrees cooler to experience it back then!
I cannot express to you how FAST it has gone. I grew up in a world that does not exist now. We're starting on the path to reverse it, globally. You might not know how much solar has EXPLODED in the last decade or two. It's gone from a side thing, a weirdo novelty that was just Not Viable... to whole countries investing in infrastructure. but we have to keep fighting big oil and fascism everywhere we can in order to keep on this road to a new better less scorching burning earth.
But any time you wonder wtf the weather is doing- THIS IS NOT NORMAL, NO. THIS IS NOT WHAT IT WAS EVEN TWENTY YEARS AGO.
Yukio Mishima's House in Ohtori Academy
Lmao Utena fans in 2001 like 'the setting is an anachronistic western style of archi-'
Utena and Anthy's school dorm is directly based on a specific real person's mansion? Hang on I gotta google something
What the fucking fuck
The more I think about this the more it's genius. (Utena spoilers follow.)
Ohtori is an eternal grade school, right? A looping pre-adolescence that one only escapes from through internal growth. Stasis, in the shape of nostalgic beauty but teeming with rot under the surface.
Of course it's the mansion of a fascist who conmitted seppuku, who made big dramatic gestures about changing the world only to abandon it for an imagined idyll. Akio has abandoned the real world to live in a puppet territory of his own creation, where no one is happy but him no matter how he pulls the strings, but to him that's fine. Because he's got his. That's fascism babey.
End of the World claims to want to bring revolution, and we think of this in the sense of cycle-breaking; but the only revolution he's actually interested in is an eternal repeat of the past. Akio/fascists continuously try to recreate a time that they feel was perfect, even though it was really only perfect for them (if at all), at the expense of others' suffering.
Utena is deeply, movingly political while showing barely a sliver of the outside world, and that's fascinating.

HTML isn't only for people working in the tech field. It's for everyone. Learn how to make a website from scratch in this beginner friendly
if you're learning HTML for any reason, i can't recommend HTML for people highly enough. it's a fantastic introduction to HTML and CSS targeted towards beginners who aren't technically inclined, and it isn't patronizing towards the reader for that. it's a very relaxed and kind (but informative) resource that even i reference from time to time (and i consider myself pretty good with semantic HTML).
definitely check it out if you're interested in making a personal site, or working with HTML at all.
learn your ways
we'll meet again don't know where, don't know when
Just found out the guy I've been fighting with via email over whether a matter is legal or finance's responsibility is the SAME GUY I've been chatting with in the halls. Oh my fucking god. I'd literally send him an email basically being like, you are incompetent and you are actively trying to evade responsibility, and then FOUR MINUTES later see him in the halls and go "Heyyyy bitch omg how's your wife, how did the vet trip go, when are you going to come to lunch with us on Thursdays omg stop avoiding us" he must think I'm CRAZY

and if i said nolan's odyssey starring no greek actors and with no recognizable aspects of greek culture or involvement by greeks, is the direct legacy of white supremacist colonialism that treated ancient greece as not just the pinnacle of ancient culture, but of an artificially created "european" culture, which white western europeans and their settler descendants, as the new pinnacle of culture, were the sole spiritual inheritors of.
^^^ PEOPLE ARE STILL THERE. There's a metro station across the street from the colosseum where i found a hair in my pizza slice. We drove by ruins of an amphitheater next to a motorway in greece once. It's literally just real places where real people live and have lived. It's not mythical perfect lands that once existed. I went to Itacha in 2023 and there was not enough parking space.
In fact, this was a cultural project early western European archaeologists actively developed. We consider it a phase of archaeological thought, theory, and practice, and we usually call it classicalism. Early archaeologists (Schliemann if I ever get my hands on you...) from places like England and Germany were OBSESSED with finding archaeological evidence of places from epics, hoping to prove their cultural connections to these places. They admired and heralded the arts and philosophies of ancient Greeks and Romans and wanted permission to claim that as cultural patrimony. The underlying theory treated archaeological practice as a practice of inventing cultural heritage and belonging. This same theory was later employed toward the development of the Israeli settler state.
“it isnt something you have to read critically” well 😭
this technically is true but I think this also perfectly encapsulates why I am inherently distrustful of like. “”cozy”” “turn your brain off” fiction lmfao. like okay WHO gets to turn their brain off and who has to suffer through bigoted caricatures of themselves while everyone else is having cozy silly no brain time 😐
i'm still on hiatus from my sideblogs at the moment but this is killing me

there's this weird thing people fall into online a lot, where people assume that if the [perceived-to-be-inferior] version of [activity] is discouraged then people will, naturally, do [perceived-to-be-superior] version of [activity] instead. When really it's just as (or more) likely that if [perceived-to-be-inferior] version of [activity] is discouraged people just won't do it at all.
audiobook listeners are not necessarily people who would otherwise do a lot of traditional reading if audiobooks did not exist, many are people who simply would experience zero books. Booktok romance readers would not necessarily be reading the classics if booktok did not exist, many of them would simply not read. Fanfiction writers would not necessarily be novelists if fanfic wasn't an option, many would just be people who didn't write. You know?
