thought too hard about MRI machines today and had this come to me in a vision
mri accident is literally one of my biggest anxiety freakouts. i dont care about being in the tiny loud tube, im so scared of a secret piece of metal i dont know about in my body will tear through me like a knife through butter. what if i ate a quarter in my sleep
Quarters George who eats a $10 roll of quarters every night is shredded into a fine mist my the MRI
TIME TO POST ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE IMAGES!!!!
Back when I worked at the hospital, I had to take MRI training and it was my favorite thing every time. It was only like 10 minutes long and went a little something like this:
Hey. The MRI is basically a really big magnet and by basically I mean it is and we literally never turn it off. It's like really big. Really really big and powerful and The Magnet is always on. We don't turn it off Ever, for any reason. We mean it bro, The Magnet is literally always on. It's crazy strong and will definitely kill you. So don't bring any metal into the MRI room, man. You will fuck up the machine (because The Magnet is always on) and then you will die (again, because The Magnet is always on). Here's some fun questions for you to test your understanding!
1) The ______ is always on.
2) The Magnet is ______ on.
3) How often is The Magnet on?
4) The Magnet is always __.
5) The Magnet is always on. T/F
6) The Magnet is usually on but we know to turn it off for you because you're a very special boy :) T/F
7) My weak fleshy body can survive the wrath of The Magnet. T/F
8) Look at this 500 lbs steel hospital bed, which The Magnet has crumpled into an origami crane. Imagine if that was you.
9) Is The Magnet ever off?
10) Sometimes we turn The Magnet off. T/F
Thank you for taking MRI training. We hope you learned that The Magnet is always on, because it is. It's on Right Now and it will be on every time you come to the MRI. Have fun and remember: The Magnet is always on!
I love you MRI training. The Magnet is always on.
well i have seen the odyssey
sympathizing deeply with the person who just stood up during the credits and groaned "achilles wasn't even there"
and anyway initial thoughts
it's about committing war crimes and then not being able, ever, to go home etc. the one good monologue [except it went on too long], featuring the phrase: to burn the walls of troy was to burn the world entire.
correct.
one very very good bit: incredibly affective/effective use of the bow string hum repetition.
less good: agamemnon actor. sorry to that man: terrible. jon bernthal's speech: not very good. the pacing of the dialogue in the first half hour: crazy. the fight scene at the end that felt like watching an ass co-op video game [music very good here, except again: went on too long.]
there is one odysseus monologue where i wrote "i don't even remember what he's talking about anymore💀" and now having finished the film: what i most remember from that speech was zoning out and then zoning back in to realize he was still talking and being like "no way"
VERY GOOD: the circe body horror bit. the actual conversation they have AFTER: mid. also even the incredibly well done freaky body horror: WENT ON TOO LONG. it lost its freakiness by the time they finally stopped showing it.
this will be very funny once you've seen it: person beside me who at one point sighed and said "there they go, running down that beach again"
and anyway again, i think it's interesting that
redfield talks about achilles as an alien to his own culture, locked outside of the bounds of his own society, and the central thesis of this odyssey is that odysseus has fundamentally broken his own culture and turned them all into aliens in their own lands. there is one section near the end where we flash back to troy and you really feel that the age of heroes [big asterisk] has ended, and that everyone left is quite morally small. the absence of hector—not even named, though why would he be— the absence of achilles, patroclus, big ajax, it all leaves nothing but these very hardened, brittle human men who do what human men do [asterisk] in war. even odysseus is shrunken. it's interesting and i don't hate it, but i don't know how successful it was.
the horse itself was really beautiful, kept thinking of that part of mark doty's "source" where it's like "but all the time it was horses I was thinking of."

well i have seen the odyssey
and anyway i really am having the time of my life with call of duty fic. like oh what if ghost was a little kitty cat but also at the same time the ceaseless timeless unending void of space and time and also he gives himself bottom surgery.
what if soap got dishonorably discharged from the military and moved into a haunted apartment building in a fic that is genuinely somehow one of the creepiest things i've ever read, as someone who has a very hard time being scared of written works despite reading a lot of horror. yay.
