It's a really uncomfortable red flag to me, and I know that not a lot of people may feel the same way, but we as adults have a responsibility to maintain boundaries and be fucking responsible.

I feel more strongly about this than ever, and when new blogs follow me with that, I block on site. If I discover that I missed it in someone's rules who I'm mutuals with, I am definitely going to bring it up to you and we will go from there.

Do not allow minors onto your blog if you write NSFW content! They don't care if it's tagged! Do not normalize exposing children to this! I don't care if they're 17, I don't care if they're 'mature for their age'! These levels of comfort with adults are exactly the sorts of desensitizing that enables grooming.

So my job has cut literally everyone's hours (minus their 11 managers at McDonald's ofc) because of school being out and it being summer break which means that it's going to be incredibly slow until school starts back up in August. I need money for gas, bills, OTC medications, paying off loans, and other necessities (food, pet needs, etc.) and with me not even working 20 hours a week now, it's going to be next to impossible to do all of these things.

I, quite literally, do not have enough gas to last until I get paid on Monday (6/8) to get to/from work, run errands, etc. Not only that, but I tend to donate plasma on Wednesdays and Fridays for $120/week because I'm guaranteed these two days off each week. For those who know, my partner and I began the year with some financial hardship during our move. We were forced to pay application and convenience fees for the tenants taking over our last apartment, which damaged our stability.

Adding to the frustration, my full time job simply ... doesn't give me 40 hrs anymore! Not only do I not get 40 hrs, my body has been ripping itself to shreds trying to keep up. So some asshole has thought up a new Tumblr scam: it's a post on a Tumblr account that's named something to make it look official-ish.

Variations include:

account-help

account-sync

account-update

account-updating

These posts show up on your dashboard, telling you that because they think you've monetized your Tumblr account, they're putting you in the penalty box sending you to the cornfield setting you to "Lurker Mode" where you can post but no one will see your posts. And, naturally, all you have to do is click on the helpful link to give tumblrsupport your account data to get it fixed.

Friends, this is a big fat lie.

The official location of Tumblr Support is https://www.tumblr.com/support or https://support.tumblr.com. And guess what? They'll already have your account information.

Tumblr has no such thing as Lurker Mode.

If you right-click on their link, you'll see it's a munged/shortened link. You can go to a site like https://www.expandurl.net to expand that link and see where it takes you: it's not Tumblr Support.

The sheer number of innocent posts that get wrongly marked as mature (including posts with deactivated/deleted OPs who obviously can’t appeal, so they’re just permanently stuck with that label) mean you will be cutting off these users from huge swaths of the site for no actual reason.

Reviews to get the label removed from SFW posts take forever and don’t even reliably work. Hell, the option to request a review straight up broke on one of the posts on this blog. (I’ve tried repeatedly to submit an appeal but it keeps giving me an error message, and sometimes the option to appeal is missing entirely.)

Speaking of reviews, if you implement age verification measures, how are people in Brazil and the UK with incorrectly flagged posts supposed to appeal if they’re going to be prevented from seeing them?

And I can’t speak for Brazil, but the relevant UK legislation is around two and a half years old and fines for breaches started almost one year ago, so why are you choosing to do this now?

Why are you so determined to kill your site?
