why do you think theres evidence to renXnora I mean there is no evidence to them having anything more than a close friendship they dont seem to have any romantic interest in the other its like blakeXyang. and the song boop isnt evidence
How is Boop not evidence? It’s true that it’s extra material, something that isn’t in the show proper. But unless you have paperwork or a written statement or some video from some rooster teeth member (that actually gets to make decisions regarding rwby) saying that boop isn’t canon, then it is.
If you mean that the song itself does not explicitly state that it’s about Ren and Nora, then you’d be wrong.
Here are some lyrics of the song that I think are quite relevant.
1)“Hold Magnhild, I think I’m gonna faint”
I shouldn’t have to explain this first part. Magnhild is Nora’s weapon. Who the hell else would have the weapon in their possession.
2) “I just bite my tongue and when I want to say I love you I say, Boop.”
Well we know this is about Nora AND Ren now. Because the only person who has said “boop” is Nora. And who she said it to was Ren.
If you’re looking for evidence that is not Boop, then we’ve got this from Nora’s side. From a post of mine:
“1)This point is pretty minor, but this is what first caused me to raise my eyebrows in suspicion. In “The First Step” I had been content to just see these two as friends, but then, Nora says the fated words: “Well, not ‘together-together’… Not that I’m not saying that you’re not handsome; you are handsome, but that’d just be weird, right?”In case you still don’t understand, I’ve bolded the prove-y parts. There was no reason for her to say any of this. She could have left it as “What are the odds we’d still be together?” Ren knows exactly what she meant by that, he wouldn’t have corrected her. Now that she’s realized the implications of what “together” meant, she feels the need to correct herself. After that she’s just fumbling for words, and reveals more about how she feels about Ren. She didn’t have to say anythinggg. But she did, and now we know that she thinks Ren is handsome (well, duh). If her feelings for him were completely platonic, she wouldn’t have said anything like that. There’d be no reason for her to. Like seriously if I was writing two characters that were only meant to be platonic, I would never write a scene like that. The implication of those words are too strong.”
I can understand feeling fuzzy about Ren’s side of this, as he is quite quiet and subtle. But to quote myself again from this post:
“On to Ren now. His feelings on the matter are a bit more complicated, since he’s typically very quiet and composed. We really shouldn’t take this to mean that he doesn’t feel anything though. I can be quite introverted myself (I’m somewhat good at hiding it), and anyone who is introverted can attest to the fact that silence doesn’t mean that we don’t care. The tricky part is that all of Ren’s thoughts and feelings are in his head. We can’t really tell what he’s thinking or feeling because he doesn’t say or act out much. A lot of the stuff he does is going to be subtle. Anything regarding his feelings towards Nora is going to be even more subtle because he has a reason to hide it.”
“Now my friends, I didn’t bring you here to this lovely post to just be all “I guess Ren loves Nora bc I dunno”. I’ve got my reasons.”
“We were given evidence in a conversation that was prompted by dear ol’ Jaune in “Burning the Candle”. Jaune asks “Well, how did you and Nora… y'know…” He clearly thinks that Ren and Nora are a thing (when the oblivious guy can figure this out u have a problem). Ren picks up on this quickly. And you know what he does? He in fact does not, calmly correct Jaune like a person that has no attraction to their friend would do. He stammers. Lie Ren. The basic epitome of cool and collected, stammers like an idiot. Umm whaAT?? He never directly responds to Jaune’s question. Nora does it (with another use of “not together-together”) And after that, he changes the subject! (”Jaune, what is this all about?”). Why would he do that if he only had platonic feelings for Nora? There’s literally no reason for it unless….. maybe….? He has…Romantic feelings for Nora….????”
If you don’t like renora as a ship, that’s fine. You don’t have to like it.
But there is evidence. I just wasted 15 minutes typing it out for you. As far as having actual evidence, it is nothing like Blake/Yang. That is a horrible comparison.
reblogging this again because there are some people ( who happen to be bb shippers claiming it was there from the start ( when no it wasnt there was nothing in v1-5/6 that hinted at bb nothing inherently romantic about v6 moments ) trying to claim that renora only got started in v4 when no its not it got actual hints since v1 unlike bb ( have seen some people go well it was stated that blake loved yang ( love doesnt equal romantic love adam said he would destroy everything blake loves ( notice the wording and how it involves multiple people it means he will destroy everything blake cares about her friends and family ( he referenced this when he said he wanted her family slaughtered etc yang showed up and adam noticed blakes face so he went starting with her it wasnt because he noticed anything special about yang and blakes relationship)

yang wasnt being flirty with blake in burning the candle she reaching out to a friend a wink is dubious at best and the framing and context is different from suns introduction scene which would count as a tease or a hint

Because it’s about framing and context.
Sun’s wink is accompanied by a slow-mo pan of his expression, followed by the camera focusing on Blake’s slack-jawed attention, along with a literal choir singing in the background while she stares at him. This is his introduction— to Blake, but more importantly, to the audience. This is the first moment we properly meet him, and it’s through this very particular gaze.
Yang’s wink is precipitated by her trying to convince Blake to come to the dance for her own mental and physical well-being. There’s no attention given to any other motivation on Yang’s part during the exchange, or what Blake’s reaction was following.
One of these has clear romantic intent. The other does not. If I were to present these two scenes to a random bystander and remove the names from the samples, and if I asked them to tell me which scene they thought was meant to be a romantic one, my guess is that they would go with the Sun and Blake scene. Because again, it’s about the framing of the scene, and the context of the situation the characters are in.
I say that Yang’s wink is dubious evidence at best, because I acknowledge that it can technically be read as romantic— but a.) it’s extremely covert, and only noticeable if you’re looking at it to find romantic evidence in the first place, and b.) I’m highly doubtful that was the writers’ intent in the first place.
I see nothing romantic in Blake and Yang’s relationship, the wink doesn’t change thatAs for the but yang was the one who helped blake in v2 Sun, well, there are things that he just can’t do. If anything I’d expect people to appreciate that he respects Blake’s boundaries. She said no, so he took it on the chin and walked off to not bother her againIf he kept going after Blake, the same people would be calling him a creep.
and people are already complaining about blake and ruby not having conversations/moments can you imagine the reaction to blake and yang not having a moment till v3 ( also the moment also served to explore yangs character)
and on yangs reaction to blake leaving
“Yang just shuts down, and I think that was one of the few things the writers said well
Up to meeting Adam, Yang saw herself as invincible, with her semblance confirming that mindset.
She runs in to help her friend and almost dies for it. This is the most vulnerable she has been ever since Qrow saved her and Ruby from Grimm when they were children. She blacks out from pain, and when she wakes up she sees that the person she lost her arm for, who she almost died for… Left
Without saying anything or even leaving a noteThe trust that she had in her partner, the person who she spend the most time with at Beacon was broken, so of course she breaks down. That’s a natural reactionComparing it to the real world, imagine you save your friend from getting hit by a car, but then get hit yourself
And when you wake up in hospital, you learn that this friend has moved out, not just out of city, out of country.
Would you not have a similar reaction?
“
her being upset about blake abandoning her ( when she has abandonment issues due to her mom wasnt evidence for romance and she did not sound like a spurned lover
“
this ship is an example of a best friends in a relationship ship and with this type of ship
“ let me tell you that any interaction with the characters that has any positive light to it WILL be considered ship tease or proof or whatever. That’s because these things can easily be retooled as “shipping”. Because they are so close, something these people want in THEIR relationships, they will interpret it that because it’s something they agree with and sympathize with. It’s something you can’t criticize because it’s personal“
ie they take any moment between blake and yang and act like its evidence like the claim that yang was being flirty with blake in burning the candle when no . or claiming that yang sounded like a spurned lover
