Korra losing her connection to her past lives, right? It was awful for a lot of people (especially Korra), but there’s someone I’ve never seen talked about regarding this whole event:
I wanna know how Katara felt.
Katara, who’s been the best friend -> girlfriend -> wife of the avatar for many, many years.
Katara, who’s known Aang since the beginning.
Katara, who made sacrifices with grace on the regular, knowing and accepting the life she chose in being with Aang.
Katara, who in the eyes of many was Aang’s second.
Katara, who probably accepted Aang’s “early” death knowing he’d already escaped it once (and that this was the only reason she ever got to love him at all).
Katara, who probably found solace in it knowing that he still lived in the little girl she helped to train and raise.
I want to know how Katara felt when she found out that Korra had been brutally attacked and beaten (by her own uncle!) and had the avatar spirit literally ripped out of her and murdered in front of her eyes.
Katara may do what she does for Korra now. I believe that she does; she really does love Korra, and we see it in nearly all her screentime in tlok. But to everyone else, she trained the avatar. And in tlok, that may be Korra, but she wouldn’t have ever met her if not for Aang.
I want to know how Katara felt when she realized that Aang was truly, finally dead.
