you’re mixing up two completely different things: narrative stakes and actor logistics.

first : prequels don’t live or die based on whether a character gets a “happy ending.” we already know where stories go and still watch them anyway. that’s literally how prequels function.

House of the Dragon didn’t fail because we know the Targaryens crash and burn. if anything, that inevitability is part of the appeal.

second : the idea that a prequel’s success depends on Soldier Boy becoming “better” later on is just… not how storytelling works.

not every character is meant to be redeemed. and forcing that just to keep audiences comfortable is weak writing.

third : the age argument is honestly the least convincing part.

Jensen Ackles being “almost 50” doesn’t suddenly break the concept of a prequel. recasting exists. timelines can shift. flashbacks can be selective. this isn’t a new problem the industry just discovered yesterday.

we’ve had multiple actors play the same character across different ages for decades. somehow audiences survived. (Batman anyone?)

if anything, the obsession with a redemption arc says more about the audience than the character.

people don’t actually want complex characters, they want attractive ones to be morally reassuring. (You’re missing who Soldier Boy is and your moral compass is based on looks?)

and when they’re not, suddenly the story is the problem.

It's not even an unpopular opinion to say Supernatural isn't that good. It's a running joke among the real fans (the types who have their heads screwed on and are interesting to speak to about the actual show not their ooc fanfic) that "I said it was my favourite show, not that it was a good show".

The actors weren't all the best but I do believe there are some performances that deserved Emmy consideration, in episodes that are mini masterpieces. Jared and Jensen were far more talented than a show like that usually attracts, which was part of the reason it was a success. And the show deserved recognition in the other skills that talented people had, the crew that made the magic happen.

I’ve had anons like that. Or come across posts by detractors and haters who demanded to know whether I bothered to do work offline to match the stuff I wrote about. I could post all the stuff I do until my face turned blue and it still wouldn’t be enough.

Which, I can’t say the same for most show nowadays. Acting is often bad if not downright mediocre and dialogues are so empty everyone’s trying to do one-liner twitter worthy. Filmmaking is lackluster. Professionalism is film school level.
