"I can't be your Superman anymore." –Clark after losing his powers.

"–and you're a superhero!" "Not anymore." –Mike and Eleven after losing her powers.

The most recent episode of MAwS has showcased a powerless Clark Kent who is mourning his abilities to be "heroic". It's a very compelling plot, and it's one I've seen before in Stranger Things season 3 and 4. 👀

The two heroes struggle with feelings of worth and usefulness without their unusual abilities, when really, it's their hearts that were the most valuable parts of them.

“I didn’t name you Superman because of what you could do. I named you Superman because of who you are!”

He needs to work on building up the Clark Kent side before he can get back to being superman. Should positively impact every aspect of his life from fighting bad guys to things with Lois. If you’re nothing without the cape, you don’t deserve it. Assuming that was the future Lex we saw from the alternate timeline pulling them into the future? So this should be the impetus to develop him as well as the Kara x Jimmy stuff that’s been HAUNTING us for weeks.

Did Lois do most of the work after that, yes but she isn’t able to do that without Clark.

It’s not “he’s nothing without the powers/cape”, it’s “he sees the things he does without the cape as nothing” because he’s used to being able to do so much more. To him, what he can do now is the bare minimum or even worse, less than the bare minimum.

This comic is quite concerning to me.

It's framed as romantic. Aangsty.

I think it's anything but that.

Aang tries to pry an answer out of Katara about their kiss before the invasion. She avoids the topic, as she has done so before. Aang’s frustration produces a dangerous lava blast. Katara has to hide behind a pillar to avoid getting singed. Its dangerous. Its reckless. But Katara immediately redirects sympathy toward his fear of him being the one harmed.

Once again, it's Katara - despite nearly getting walloped - that reassures him. That she's 'fine'; even praising him. Her fright and the recklessness of what he did are barely acknowledged.

Now it's worth noting Aang doesn't deliberately try and hurt Katara, but its absolutely a point-blank showcase of Aang losing control and endangering Katara because he cannot consider her romantic boundaries.

Does he apologise? Yes. But in the end his actions are still framed as 'valid.'

Monkey's paw*curls inward*

Because it isn’t only just monkey’s paw, it is monkey’s paw for sure, but it’s also fuck you timing.

The past few episodes did a good job showing “Being Superman is a lot and there’s new threats but he’s found a footing now, he’s got a rhythm to things” Things were mostly annoying, not overwhelming.

He JUST got the hang of things, gotten used to having and regulating his powers and of being both Clark Kent and Superman. And now he’s gotta find himself all over again

Can't find the right screenshot but in the latest episode when Superman was full of blue energy and they showed his molecules all I could think was:

I like the idea of them both having their strengths.

Clark is a storyteller. He's a technically better writer, has better prose, builds up a story low and slow. He has long articles that take months to gather information for and builds up a story fact by fact until you're reading it like a mystery novel. When the last paragraph comes, it swings in like a sledgehammer, changing hearts and minds.

But Lois is the better interviewer by a mile and her journalistic sense for what the public wants to read is off the charts. Lois can get people to spill secrets like they're on their death bed. She can go into a room with the most wily politician and get them to bite their own tail while they think they're getting her to chase her own. She gets the sniff of a potential story and busts down the door in days, not weeks. Lois is a shock-and-awe, front page, hot off the presses, read-all-about-it kind of writer.

Clark can't break open a story the way Lois can. Lois doesn't have the patience to build a case like Clark can.

Rewatched 9x14 'Persuasion'

This is a funny episode but it also carries some deep meaning related to Lois fears of not fitting into the 'traditional' role of a housewife.

First scene is just clark surrendering completely to lois wishes, hes exactly where he wants to be.

'History has proven that if i embrace V-day in any romantic way at all... it always ends in a disaster.' - clarks reaction being like 'crimson memories, wasnt that bad.'

Lois is driven away by her fears of not belonging due to the way her father raised her, kinda sad :') she just wants an easy life and to be loved. 

Clark saying 'you are home' OMG IMMA K1LL MYSELF. Hes also revealing for the first time that what he and lois have is for real, especially since he had just told the street vendor that they dont use the terms 'boyfriend' or 'girlfriend'. And it is in this exact moment w lois having a mental breakdown, that clark decides to drop huge words like 'home' and 'forever', marking the first time he truly believes (or really wants to believe) in it.

'Do you mean it?'

'I do.'

After that lois just went bananas, its so funny! The whole scene w the wedding dress, the calls... Amazing.

But back to whats important:

'I guess its easier to complain about valentines day than it is to give it a shot.' - do you see that face?? Clarks looking miserable bc his wife doesnt want to celebrate vday w him omg !!!

Thank god lois is also learning how to be in a mature and serious relationship and accepts that she has to trust that what they have 'is something more.'

Persuasion is such an episode. I was so scared when I heard about it because I was worried that Clark was wishing for traditional gender roles in his relationship with Lois, but the show was all “Nah all dude wanted was a normal date but the magic in the universe once again said fuck you” and that’s infinitely funnier
